By marriage to the Robyns family, builders of Treneere, also marriage and childhood friendship to John Price (1738 – 1797). Price was a prominent figure in the life of Penzance - councillor, alderman, mayor, high sheriff and landowner. He erected an impressive and costly, marble memorial to John Badcock in Paul church, such was his affection for his childhood friend.Further information about the history of this portrait and the sitter, is available upon request. Condition report: This painting is in excellent condition, close inspection suggests that the canvas has been lined. Our vendor tells us that when he acquired the work in the 80s he had a highly regarded restorer clean the work.Under a UV lamp one can see that there has been a little later painting, but this affects none of the main detail, for example, there is no added paint to the face.
