A well engineered 5 inch gauge model of British Railways 4-6-2 tender locomotive ‘Britannia’, No.70000, built by Mr M. Garner of Beaconsfield, the copper boiler with two water gauges, pressure gauge, safety blower, whistle, injector, clack, blow down valves, piston valves with Walschaert’s valve gear, cylinder-head pressure relief valves, cab controls, fluted motion, mechanical lubricator, eccentric driven feed pump and bypass, injector, brake gear, and boiler washout plug, the locomotive bodywork with smoke deflectors, steps, hand and lamp irons and other details, the tender with riveting, hand feed pump, steps, and hand and lamp irons, finished in British Railways dark green livery, 192cm long, the cab 25cm wide. Boiler History: None available. Note: This model was based on a Winson kit, with further parts supplied by Reeves and other retailers. The model was re-finished by The Engineers Emporium, LA Services Ltd, Warwickshire in 2004 and run on air. It comes with some documented history of the work carried out by the latter.
An exhibition quality model of a 5 inch gauge London & South Western Railways 0-4-4 Adams Class side tank locomotive, No.178, builder unknown but built for exhibition purposes, with unfired copper boiler having fittings including water sight glass, regulator, dummy pressure and vacuum gauges, safety valves, twin display whistles, brake gear, clack and blow-down valves, chassis details including twin inside cylinders with Stephenson’s link gear, cab operated drain cocks and other cab detail including opening porthole windows, fitted with steps, handrails, lamps and lamp irons, couplings with fitted vacuum hoses, finished in apple green and black lined livery with ‘L’ and ‘SWR’ to side tanks and number plates to cab sides, 78cm long, the cab 22cm wide; complete with display track.
A well engineered model of a 5 inch gauge Great Western Railway 4-6-0 tender locomotive ‘Torquay Manor’, No.7800, built to the Martin Evans design with copper superheated boiler having fittings including water sight glass, regulator, pressure gauge, safety valve, whistle, cab operated brake gear, cab operated drain cocks, lever operated firebox doors, clack and blow-down valves, chassis details including twin outside cylinders 1 and 9/16 inch bore by 2 5/8 inch stroke, having Stephenson’s internal link gear, water pump driven directly from fluted motion, ratchet oiler, couplings and vacuum hoses, the six wheel tender with spring suspension and fitted hand operated water feed pump, fitted tool boxes, brake, water cocks, vents, steps, hand rails and vacuum hose, finished in Great Western Railway green and black lined livery with fitted steps, handrails and lamp irons, couplings with fitted vacuum hoses and badged to smoke box ‘Cambrian Coast Express’, 168cm long, the cab 24cm wide. A well engineered 3 1/2 inch gauge model of a 0-6-0 side tank locomotive ‘John Bull II’, No.1981, built by the late Mr R.J. Williams of South Wales, the superheated copper boiler with fittings including sight glass, pressure gauge, regulator and direction control lever, chassis with twin outside cylinders, Walschaert’s valve gear, whistle, clack and safety valves, displacement oiling system, axle and hand feed water pumps, finished in green and black lined livery with polished steel brightwork, fitted steps, handrails, lamp irons and vacuum hoses, 67cm long, the cab 17cm wide; together with a transportation cradle. An exhibition quality model of a 3 1/2 inch gauge WWI 2-6-2 side tank locomotive, No.1227, built to 1 3/4 inch to the foot scale based on the American Loco Company two foot gauge 1917 design for service in World War I working in France behind the trenches by The Royal Engineers, built by Mr Sayer of Sussex between 2004 and 2009 and based on the ‘Mountaineer’ design by Don Young, with silver soldered copper round top boiler, fittings including water sight glass, ratchet lever operated regulator, pressure gauge, safety valves, direction control lever, cab control drain cocks to cylinders, hand feed pump, steam brakes and hand brake to all driving wheels, clack and blow-down valves, chassis details including twin outside cylinders 1 1/2 inch by 2 1/4 inch stroke with Walschaert’s valve gear to slide valves, planked flooring to cab and cab operated whistle, injector and ratchet type mechanical oiler system, fitted with steps, handrails and lamp irons in World War I livery having cab sides plates ‘American Loco Corporation 57110 1917’, 102cm long, the cab 30cm wide. Boiler History: Boiler supplied by Western Steam Boilers of Bridgwater, Somerset, purchased on 5th July 2004. Model completed in 2009. Hydraulic test pressure 170 psi. Working pressure 85 psi. Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies Hydraulic test certificate No.SF113394. Expired on 23rd January 2013. Along with other history and steam test certificates. Note: A great deal of research was carried out in the building of this historic and unique model, including information supplied by the Imperial War Museum, Royal Engineers Museum, The Royal Logistic Corps Museum and The National Railway Museum.
An exhibition quality model of the rarely seen 3 1/2 inch gauge Southern Class S15 4-6-0 tender locomotive ‘Greene King’, No.841, built by the award winning builder Mr J. Wingate of Winchester from the design by Martin Evans and castings from Reeves of Birmingham, the silver soldered copper boiler with fittings including sight glass, pressure gauge, system drains, direction control lever, cab operated cylinder drain cocks, safety valve and clack, the chassis with twin outside cylinders having finely fluted motion with Walschaert’s valve gear and ratchet driven oiler system, six-wheel tender with fitted steps, hand irons and lamp irons, water cocks and brake gear, finished in traditional Southern green and black lined livery, with fitted steps, lamp and hand irons, 119cm long, the cab 16cm wide; complete with a glazed display case and fitted display track. A 3 1/2 inch gauge model of an LMS 4-6-0 locomotive and tender ‘Black Five’, No.5232, built to the LBSC’s design ‘Doris’, with copper boiler and fittings including single sight glass, pressure gauge, safety, blower, injector, clack and blow-down valves, chassis details include twin outside cylinders 1 5/32 inch bore by 1 3/4 inch stroke, with Walschaert’s valve gear, fluted motion, footplate controlled drain cocks, mechanical lubricator, feed pump and bypass, injector, steps and lamp irons, six-wheel tender with hand feed pump, brake, steps and hand irons, finished in LMS black livery, 123cm long, the cab 18cm wide; together with a transportation case; and a folder of Model Engineer build articles. Boiler History: Western Steam Boiler test report dated 14th June 2006. Test pressure 160 psi. Working pressure 80 psi. Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies certificate No.SF 108409.
