Ca. 1100–1300 AD. Seljuk. A bronze oil lamp comprising a conical base and a piriform body with a round nozzle. The hinged openwork lid is surrounded by a pomegranate-shaped knop; the loop handle to the rear is surmounted by a transversal reflector. The Seljuks were a ruling military family of the O?uz (Ghuzz) Turkic tribes that invaded southwestern Asia in the 11th century AD and eventually founded an empire that included Mesopotamia, Syria, Palestine, and most of Iran. Their advance marked the beginning of Turkish power in the Middle East. The Seljuk dynasty died out at last early in the 14th century. The glass to the signal lamp is present in three of the apertures for red, amber and green, these filters are in three strip sections of glass and have general nibbles at the edges and the amber one has a tape repair to the upper middle strip. The small rectangular lamp has degraded and there are holes in the bottom corner and there are some losses to the corner of the triangular lamp. Overall rather tired.
