‡ A French timepiece in the Chinese taste, final quarter 19th century, the eight-day back wound movement with dual plane duplex escapement, regulated by sprung monometallic balance, with two tone gilt highlighted Roman numeral cartouche painted porcelain dial; The gilt circular timepiece above a turquoise glazed ceramic elephant, possibly English, in the manner of examples by the Royal Worcester company, with lambrequin hung saddle, on a rectangular gilt metal and onyx base, 37 cm high; with two matched gilt metal mounted ceramic French twin light figural candelabra in the Chinese taste, final quarter 19th century, the openwork arms held aloft by ceramic hounds perched atop arched and rectangular bases, on scrolling ceramic feet, 34.5 cm high CATALOGUE NOTES: The movement of the current lot employs a very unusual form of two-plane duplex escapement. Thirty nine Chinese porcelain tiles mid 18th century, decorated after London delftware with monochrome vases of flowers, the corners with simple sprig designs, some wear, 12.5cm. (39) Cf. A group of English porcelain teawares 2nd half 18th century, including a Worcester teapot and replacement cover painted in polychrome enamels with Chinese figures in a garden setting, a Chelsea plate painted with a butterfly beside fruit, a Worcester teacup in the Dalhousie pattern, a moulded Liverpool coffee cup, a teabowl and saucer painted with back to back roses, a famille rose saucer with a vase of flowers, and a Bow blue and white bowl painted with a small pagoda on a jetty, some faults, 21.5cm max. A rare Chinese Batavian European-decorated teabowl and saucer Kangxi 1662-1722, decorated in underglaze blue with flower sprays, the underside glazed brown, with later wheel-engraved decoration in Saxony or Bohemia, of small figures at various pursuits between leafy branches, 11.6cm.
