A CHINESE WATER DROPPER IN THE SHAPE OF A DOG KANGXI 1662-1722 Decorated with splashes of green and yellow on a biscuit body, formed as a plump dog with a wide open mouth, 9cm. Provenance: formerly in the collection of Mr and Mrs Dennis, purchased from Roger Keverne on 7th December 1998, a copy of the original invoice is available. Cf. A LARGE CHINESE SU-SANCAI DISH QING DYNASTY The biscuit body painted with pomegranates and other large fruits to the well, and camellia blossoms to the reverse, with an incised motif of dragons chasing sacred jewels, various blossoms and stylised clouds, the base with a six character Kangxi mark, 36.2cm. A PAIR OF CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE YEN YEN VASES KANGXI 1662-1722 Each painted in bright underglaze blue with four deer and three cranes in a rocky landscape, the rims and shoulders with stylised cloud bands, the feet with simple lappets, 45.8cm. A PAIR OF CHINESE IMPERIAL YELLOW AND BLUE-GROUND 'DRAGON' DISHES SIX CHARACTER QIANLONG SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD 1736-95 Each with a shallow body rising to a slightly everted rim, the centres decorated with five-clawed dragons amidst clouds and flames in pursuit of flaming pearls of wisdom, the rims with further dragons, the exteriors mirroring the design, with a band of lappets around the feet, 25.3cm. (2) Dishes of this colour and pattern were produced for the use of a fifth rank Imperial concubine. Cf. A Special Exhibition of Dragon-Motif Porcelain in the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, Taipei in 1983, catalogue no.76 which included a dish of this design. A CHINESE IMPERIAL UNDERGLAZE COPPER-RED WATERPOT, PINGGUO ZUN SIX CHARACTER KANGXI MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1662-1722 With an ovoid body gently tapering towards the foot, decorated with four stylised flower sprays of lotus, chrysanthemum, peony and hibiscus, the incurved rim encircled with scrolling leaves and lotus flowerhead bands between concentric blue bands, with a band of lappets between blue lines to the foot, 9.5cm. Provenance: formerly from an English private collection, purchased from Sotheby's London, 19th February 1963, lot 43. Cf. Similar to the current example, apple-shaped waterpots belong to a class of wares produced during the Kangxi period for scholars' tables known as The Eight Great Numbers, badama. Cf. A CHINESE IMPERIAL WUCAI 'DRAGON' DISH SIX CHARACTER WANLI MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1573-1620 Painted with a five-clawed confronting red dragon amongst colourful clouds chasing a sacred pearl of wisdom, the rim with four phoenix between clouds, the exterior with a continuous flowerhead and leaf pattern, with a paper label for Sydney L Moss to the base, 16.1cm. Provenance: formerly from an English private collection, acquired in the mid 20th century. Cf.
