A Samson of Paris porcelain armorial punch bowl, late 19th century, painted in Chinese export style with an armorial and flowersprigs within floral and spearhead borders, iron red mark to base, 9 1/8in. (23.2cm.) diameter.* Condition: Wear to painted armorial and minor wear to other decoration. No chips or cracks.
A Chinese porcelain wucai fish bowl, seal mark of Qianlong but later, probably 20th century, of tapered cup form, decorated in polychrome enamels in the typical palette with a floral spray and butterflies, below a ruyi border and double concentric circles to rim and foot, 5¼in. (13.3cm.) high.* Condition: Some glaze scratching to rim and some small scratches to glaze to exterior. No chips, cracks or other damage. No restoration. Very good overall.
A matched pair of Chinese porcelain blue and white saucers, probably Kangxi period (1662-1722), with single character 'Jade' or 'Beautiful' marks, both painted with a woman and boy playing with a butterfly in a garden, within a diaper and foliate border, the smaller 5in. (12.7cm.) diameter; together with a small 18th century Chinese floral moulded saucer with blue and white floral decoration and gilt clobbering, floral mark to base, 4½in. (11.5cm.) diameter; and a later stencil decorated Chinese saucer. (4)* Condition: - Matched pair dishes: One with feint hairline to centre, small rim chip and several smaller frits to rim. The other with two small frits to rim.- Small saucer: Good with no damage. Some gilt wear. - Stencilled saucer: Very good, no faults.
A Chinese porcelain plate, iron red Guangxu six character mark (1897-1908) and of the period, decorated in famille rose enamels with roundels depicting flowers, fruit, bats, a phoenix, dragons, a Fo Dog and others, around a central iron red and gilt dragon with pearl, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) diameter.* Condition: Small rim chip with associated 1cm. hairline. One other minute chip beneath rim. Decoration very good with minor gilt wear.

A pair of early 19th century Chinese porcelain famille rose platters, octagonal with everted corners, enamelled with noblewomen in a fenced pagoda garden, within underglaze blue Fitzhugh and painted iron red and gilt guilloche and ruyi borders, 12¼ x 9in. (31 x 22.8cm.), both with chip to rim. (2)* Condition: One chip to rim on both platters. One has some flaking to enamelled decoration, on the other the decoration is good.

(3)* Condition: - Punch bowl: 1.5 x 1cm. chip and tiny hairline to foot. Otherwise good with just light gilt wear to decoration.- Plates: Both with a few tiny glaze frits to rim. Otherwise good.
Seven Chinese blue and white export porcelain plates, late 18th / early 19th century, comprising three large plates, two painted with flowers issuing from rockwork, the other with lake landscape, 11in. (28cm.) diameter, three octagonal plates, one with pagoda and lake landscape, one with a peony bush and rockwork and the third with fenced garden, the largest 10¼in. (26cm.) diameter; and a circular plate with mountain and lake landscape, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) diameter. (7)* Condition: - Large flower plate with bamboo: Two hairline cracks to rim. No other damage.- Large flower plate with peonies: Star crack to base (not visible to top) and small glaze chip beneath rim.- Large lake landscape plate: A few minute glaze frits beneath rim.- Large octagonal plate (peonies): Some glaze wear around rim and scratch to glaze.- Octagonal lake landscape plate: Two hairlines to rim. - Octagonal fenced garden plate: Two chips beneath rim and rim glaze wear.- Circular plate: Good condition.
A large Chinese porcelain blue and white lidded ginger jar, probably 19th century, of ovoid form with prunus blossom decoration and dentil collar and base, the base with spurious earlier four character reign mark, 9½in. (24cm.) high.* Condition: Good condition, with no chips, cracks or restoration.
A matched pair of Chinese porcelain blue and white saucer dishes, one with Jiaqing seal mark (1796-1820) and possibly of the period, the other with Daoguang seal mark (1821-50) and probably of the period, both painted with flowers amidst scrolling foliage, below a foliate and lotus flower border, 6in. (15.25cm.) diameter. (2)* Condition: - Jiaqing mark: Very good condition, with no faults.- Daoguang mark: Old 1.5in. hairline from rim, which has discoloured to brown. Four tiny firing cracks to foot. No other faults.
A Chinese bronze dragon, probably originally a handle, with silver metal inlaid scale decoration, 6¼in. (15.8cm.) long; together with a 19th century Chinese porcelain famille verte snuff bottle, decorated with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl above a tumultuous sea, the neck with lemon yellow lingi pendant and Greek key borders, with iron red painted seal mark, 3in. (7.5cm.) high, chips to shoulder. (2)* Condition: - Bronze dragon: Two screw thread holes to front of body, so probably original a handle from a large vase or jardiniere. Has a good patina overall and has not been polished - there are two patches of wear to the patination & silver inlay to the sides of the dragon's upper body. Two small paint splash marks to tail and a little verdigris between scales on back. No damage to bronze. - Snuff bottle: two large flakes from glaze to shoulder of bottle and two other large flakes which have old touched in painting to the shoulder. Lacks stopper. No other faults - enamelled decoration in good condition.
A pair of Chinese white glazed soft paste porcelain vases, possibly Qing Dynasty, 18th century, the very short, circular foot rising into a body of exaggerated baluster form, into an upright neck with flat, unglazed top to rim, incised with flowers and foliage within diaper and scrolled vine borders, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high. (2)* Condition: No chips, cracks or other damage. No restoration. Both vases have some brown dirt marks / stains around the unglazed top of the rim, which are stubborn and not easily removed. These are possibly the residue from lamp fittings, although we are not sure. As the rims are unglazed, these vases may original have had covers. Both vases have a few tiny dark brown kiln dust spots to the glaze.
A Chinese export porcelain sparrow beak cream jug, late 18th century, painted in blue and white pagodas around a lake shore, with bead moulded scroll handle with ruyi thumbpiece, 4½in. (11.4cm.) high, with handwritten label to base, 'From Dorothy Nov. 1920'; together with a similarly decorated Chinese blue and white export teapot with fluted body and Fitzhugh border, 7in. (17.75cm.) high, chip to lid; a globular Chinese teapot painted with blue and white flowers, lead repair to handle; and a blue and white bowl with lake landscape decoration. (4)* Condition: - Cream jug: Yellowed discolouration to glaze on spout tip with remains of gilt paint. No other faults.- Teapot: Large chip to edge of cover and finial has been off and glued back. Firing cracks to top of spout and handle. No other faults.- Small teapot: Handle has been repaired/replaced with lead. There is a large crack from the bottom of the handle around the body. Glaze frits to tip of spout.- Bowl: Hairline down whole side of bowl.
A collection of predominately 19th century Chinese porcelain items, to include six plates with various oriental motifs, 16cm diameter, a Cantonese famille rose cylindrical pot and cover, decorated with panels and leisurely figures in a courtyard terrace setting, 9cm high, and a celadon green vase with a flared rim, 25cm high. A JAPANESE KYOTO WARE JOSS STICK HOLDER EDO 1603-1868 The rectangular body decorated with abstract roundels in thick red and blue enamels on a basil green ground, with honeycomb-shaped apertures to the sides and round openings to the top for holding the joss sticks, the base with a paper label for Worcester Royal Porcelain Works Museum N.6.03, 9cm. Cf. J Ayers, Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen, vol. II, pp.706-707, no.1719, for a Kyoto ware vase with similar decoration and honeycomb-shaped reticulations. According to the author, Kyoto wares were seldom exported from Japan. Examples can be found in the collections of Augustus the Strong in Dresden and at Burghley House.

A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE VASE AND COVER MID 17TH CENTURY Painted with two large panels containing flowers and two smaller panels, one with prunus, the other with a bird perched on a branch, the base unglazed, 28cm. A RARE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'RED CLIFF' VASE SIX CHARACTER KANGXI MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1662-1722 The square-section tapered body inscribed on two sides with the two 'Odes to the Red Cliff' by the Song dynasty poet Su Dongpo (1037-1096), the other two sides finely painted with scenes illustrating the poet making the trip to the famous site with his friends, the flared neck with sprays of bamboo, the base with a mark in a glazed recess, the neck a replacement, 55cm. Provenance: a Hong Kong private collection, purchased Lyon & Turnbull, 26th September 2007, lot 81. Cf. A number of these 'Red Cliff' vases were produced in the Jingdezhen kilns around the 1690s and painted with images deriving from woodblock prints. (2) Provenance: from the collection of Edward and Julia Carter Preston, sold on behalf of The Hope Carter Preston Foundation, Liverpool. Edward Carter Preston (1885-1965) was a renowned Liverpool artist, sculptor and medalist, his daughter Julia Carter Preston (1926-2012) was a successful potter.
