Les armoiries sont celles de Dom José Ribeiro da Fonseca Figueiredo e Sousa (1690-1752), évêque d`Oporto en 1739 sous le nom de Frei José Maria da Fonseca e Evora. Diplômé de l`université d`Evora et docteur en droit canon de l`université de Coimbra, il fut ambassadeur extraordinaire et ministre à la cure de Rome et conseiller de l`Empereur Charles VI. Une terrine couverte et deux assiettes de ce service sont illustrées par Nuno de Castro, Chinese Porcelain and the Heraldry of the Empire, 1987, pp.87-89. Une autre assiette figurait dans l`exposition The porcelaine Route, Ming and Qing Dynasties¸ Fundaçao Oriente, Lisbonne, 1999, n° 28.
