MARY HICKLEY (PRE-REVOLUTIONARY RUSSIA), "Gold Glitter and Gloom, A Rush Across Russia, recollections of the Coronation of Czar Nicholas II and later travels in Russia", original typed manuscript dated 1903, together with a limited edition illustrated copy dated 1997 (No 8 of 100) and another bound copy. CHINE de commande pour le Portugal : Drageoir à contours décorés en émaux de la famille rose des armoiries de D. Frei José Maria da Fonseca e Evora, évêque d`Oporto, dans un cartouche formé de rinceaux feuillagés, le bord décoré de rinceaux et motifs de ferronnerie, filets rouge, vert et jaune sur le bord. XVIIIe siècle, époque Qianlong (1736-1795), vers 1740. Diam. : 26 cm. Les armoiries sont celles de Dom José Ribeiro da Fonseca Figueiredo e Sousa (1690-1752), évêque d`Oporto en 1739 sous le nom de Frei José Maria da Fonseca e Evora. Diplômé de l`université d`Evora et docteur en droit canon de l`université de Coimbra, il fut ambassadeur extraordinaire et ministre à la cure de Rome et conseiller de l`Empereur Charles VI. Une terrine couverte et deux assiettes de ce service sont illustrées par Nuno de Castro, Chinese Porcelain and the Heraldry of the Empire, 1987, pp.87-89. Une autre assiette figurait dans l`exposition The porcelaine Route, Ming and Qing Dynasties¸ Fundaçao Oriente, Lisbonne, 1999, n° 28. Une terrine et un rafraichissoir de ce service sont passés en vente publique en 1999 et 2001 (Sotheby`s Londres, 17 novembre 1999, lot 944 et 20 juin 2001, lot 389)

A Chinese Blanc de Chine Dehua Kilns, Fujian Porcelain Figure of Guanyin, bearing the impressed mark of He Chaozong, seated in meditative pose, with elaborate chignon, robes and bejewelled breast, holding a scroll in her left hand, with serene downward gazing expression, impressed square seal mark and gourd shape impressed mark, 20.8cm high See illustration He Chaozong is a well known Chinese potter of the 17th century, fashioning mainly Buddhist inspired white porcelain figures. His works are identified by an impressed mark, and are usually thickly potted. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a revival of figures made in the manner of He Chaozong and these also bear seal marks.
