The mention 'l'Escalier de Crystals' is particularly associated to the period 1815-1829, when the store was run by Marie Désarnaud, who installed a crystal staircase in 1815 and sold the shop in 1829 to Jacques Boin, crystal carver and engraver. From 1830, the new shop owners reduced the mention 'à l’Escalier de Cristal' to 'Boin tailleur et graveur sur cristaux' (Boin carver and engraver on crystals).Condition Report: 品相報告The main bamboo trunk slightly cut down and then overpainted at the rim. He was a senior British Army officer who served as Assistant Chief of the Imperial General Staff during World War II.Broxmouth House was built ca. 1774 and was purchased and renovated by Major General Sir John Kennedy in 1966. Note: Note: Many forms of Chinese export art played an important role in European interior decoration during the late 17th and 18th century, of which black and gold lacquer furniture, silk embroidery, and porcelain wares are most common. Chinese wallpapers appeared in Europe at about the same time as part of the larger trade. Imported by the East India and Dutch East India companies, these hand-painted papers arrived in Europe in the form of rolled sheets and marked an astonishing change of taste in grand houses that endured throughout the 18th century into the 19th century and then again periodically in the late 19th and early 20th century centuries. Most of the great houses of Europe had at least one room decorated with Chinese papers, they were often hung to form continuous murals decoration around the room and featured exotic subject matters, which are the scenes of Chinese life and landscapes, flowering trees populated with birds, butterflies and insects, and a hybrid decoration of the flowering trees incorporating with figures and sometimes pagodas and temples. The National Trust looks after one of the most important collections of historic Chinese wallpapers in the world, on permanent display at 18 country houses. For discussion and comparison of the wallpapers in British country houses, see de Bruijn, E., Bush, A. and Clifford H., Chinese Wallpaper in National Trust Houses, Swindon, National Trust, 2014, and de Bruijn, Emile, Chinese Wallpaper in Britain and Ireland, London, Philip Wilson in collaboration with the National Trust, 2017. He produced a variety of fine-quality wares, mostly on special order, including blue-and-white porcelain, copies of Chinese porcelain, and Cochin-style (Kōchi ware) works with polychrome glazes. With Ryozen, he became involved with the private kiln in Kairakuen in Kii province, owned by Tokugawa Harutomi. The crane and the pine trees are both symbols of longevity, which are reinforced when depicted together, particularly in the case of flying cranes and growing pines. The deer is a further symbol of longevity, as it was thought to be the only animal who could find the herbs of immortality and is often a companion of Shoulao, the god of Longevity; however, it is also a pun for 'official salary', as the two words are homophone in Chinese, making it also a symbol of wealth and status.Condition Report: 品相報告Some expected very minor firing imperfections include a couple of pits and iron spots. A sympathetically restored foot chip which has been reattached. Some expected light scratching and surface wear. A very tiny glaze nibble to the edge of the mouth rim.

No exact prototype can be found for this design, but the pattern is known in bowls, an example of which was excavated from the waste heaps of the Ming imperial kilns at Jingdezhen and included in the exhibition A Legacy of Chenghua, The Tsui Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1993, cat. no.
