A collection of Chinese enamelled and glazed porcelain wares:18th century, to include: a small reticulated jar decorated with fine honeycomb motifs and covered in a light brown glaze (H 7.5 cm x D 10 cm); a miniature famille rose bowl finely decorated with literati in a garden; a miniature famille rose double gourd vase finely decorated with flowers and butterflies; a miniature famille rose vase finely decorated with flowers, birds and insects. CONDITION REPORT: The reticulated pot perfect condition.Tiny urn vase has a loss to the rim.Gourd vase perfectlobed cup has hairline crackvase with bird & insects, perfect.
A Lowestoft porcelain sparrow beak jug, circa 1780, painted in a blue and white naive style with a Chinese Fence pattern, stylised tree and two flowers, further painted decoration to the handle, unmarked, 8.5cm high (lower tip of handle restored, two hairlines to the spout)Cubbin Collection no.142, purchased in 1994. Lower tip of handle has been broken and reglued, two hairlines to the spout. Please see images.
A large Chinese celadon glazed funerary jar, Song Dynasty, the slender pear-shaped vase applied with a border of twelve standing figures with a striding dragon applied in relief around the neck, with further figures and mythical animals, surmounted by a tall domed cover surmounted by a crane or egret finial, 81.5cm high Jars of this form were placed in pairs in tombs and contained offerings to the dead. The jar is replete with ancient traditional Chinese symbolism; the bird finial represents the Vermilion Bird of the South and the applied dragon at the neck represents the Green Dragon of the East. The mythical figures could be identified as a sun god and star gods, together with cranes, the symbols of longevity. Compare a very similar funerary jar illustrated in S.Pierson, Qingbai ware: Chinese Porcelain of the Song and Yuan Dynasties , 2002, p180, no.97.
