A Chinese porcelain large tankard, Qianlong period (1736-1795), slightly flared cylindrical form with flared foot and C-scroll handle, painted with peonies, other flowers, fruit and large iron red leaves, between diaper, blue dotted and floral pendant borders, 5 5/8in. (14.25cm.) high, stapled repair to handle, large chip to foot. * Condition: Handle has been off and has old stapled repair and large glaze chips to left hand edge. Large chip beneath foot. Gilt wear below rim.

Lot 1254

A Chinese Yuan or early Ming style porcelain Meiping vase, painted in blue against a pale celadon glazed ground, with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst flames, above a tumultuous sea, the shoulder with repeating scroll border and spiked foliate fringe collar, below a short neck with slightly everted rim, 13½in. (34.25cm.) high, two chips to base. * Condition: Two chips to edge of base (one 10 x 13mm., the other 2 x 2mm.). Some scratching to glaze visible, notably to centre, widest area of body but also some scratches to glaze elsewhere. Glaze flaw to shoulder, just below scroll band - the glaze is thickly pooled here with a fine, uneven line which is unglazed beneath. Dark spotting to glaze throughout and one burst bubble to glaze to very back of one dragon. No other damage or faults.

A pair of Chinese porcelain portrait plaques of the Qianlong Emperor and Empress, with Guangxu four character mark, probably later 20th century, the emperor and empress seated upon throne chairs, enamelled in blue, 11 5/8 x 8 1/8in. (29.5 x 20.7cm.), within hardwood frames with pierced brass hangers. (2) * Condition: Surface dirt to both plaques but otherwise good condition. Not examined out of frames.

(23.75cm.) diameter. * Condition: Glaze loss and chips around the rim. A little scratching to glaze to inside of bowl. Light gilt wear to decoration. No other faults.

A good Chinese porcelain Mandarin punch bowl, Qianlong period (1736-1795), painted with figures in lakeside gardens, divided by mirror shaped panels painted with birds in branches, on a diaper ground, the short foot with gilt trefoil pendant border, the interior with conforming diaper and pendant border and central floral spray, 11 3/8in. (29.8cm.) diameter, hairline cracks. * Condition: Four old hairline cracks from rim. Some wear to enamel to inside of bowl. Minor gilt wear and enamel scratches to exterior.

A fine Chinese porcelain famille rose baluster vase, 18th / 19th century, underglaze blue Qianlong seal mark to base, possibly of the period, with flared foot and upstanding neck, finely painted and enamelled with a pair of phoenixes and a crane, perched on pierced rockwork in a garden landscape with bamboo and extensive flowers including peonies, chrysanthemums and roses, the rim painted with floral motifs above a diaperwork and ruyi pendant collar, 14in. (35.5cm.) high, with pierced and silver wire inlaid hardwood cover. * Condition: Minor gilt wear. No other faults - very good overall. Remnants of old label beneath cover.

(23.5cm.) diameter, one dish with wax seal and cloth label for Duveen of Liverpool, another with remnant of seal, all with numbered paper label to base, '37'. (5) * Condition: Small rim chip to one dish. The other four dishes very good with no faults. A couple of minor glaze scratches and tiny glaze rubs.

(20cm.) diameter. * Condition: Some kiln dust and tiny bubbles to glaze. Glaze flaw to underside just beneath rim. Otherwise very good, with no damage or restoration.

(26.4cm.) long, rim chips; together with a matched pair of small saucer dishes, probably Wanli period (1573-1619), painted with a circular floral reserve within a petalled floral and foliate border, each signed with a conch shell symbol to the base within a double concentric circle, 5 1/8in. (13cm.) diameter. (3) * Provenance: Duveen, Liverpool wax seals to the oval dish and one of the saucer dishes. *Condition: - Oval dish: Rim with one large chip (1.5cm.) and one smaller chip (0.5cm.). Minor glaze wear and light scratches to well. No other faults. - Saucer dishes: One with two chips to underside of rim and several glaze frits. The other with a few small glaze frits to rim.

Gilt wear to rim. Two rust marks to back of dish from old metal plate hanger. - Plate: Large piece missing from rim and has been broken in half - has stapled repair. Some wear to decoration. - Pear teapot: Spout has been off and glued - hairline crack beneath spout and another small hairline to rim. Large chip to tip of spout. - Canton teapot: Small rim chip. Gilt wear.

A Chinese blue and white porcelain kendi, probably 18th century, the globular body rising from a short straight foot to a long, flared neck with everted rim, the shoulder with bulbous spout, decorated with ladies in fenced gardens beneath feathered foliage, the shoulder with honeycomb diaper decoration alternating with precious objects, the inner rim similarly decorated, the neck with floral pendant decoration, 9½in. (24cm.) high, shipwreck encrustation to one side and interior. * Condition: Firing crack to joint at top of spout and body. No other faults.

(3) * Condition: - Pair vases: Both with some gilt wear. One with piece off from rim with glued repair (well executed). No other faults. - Japanese vase: Good condition with minor gilt wear.

Otherwise good. - Two tea bowls: The larger good, the smaller with glaze frits around rim. - Coffee can: Good condition. - Mandarin coffee can: Replaced metal handle. - Celadon coffee can: V-shaped crack and small rim chip.

Three Chinese Famille Rose porcelain footed dishes, each having Tongzhi (1862-1874) seal marks to bases, probably of the period, the first - octofoil form, coloured in turquoise, blues and pinks, decorated with a pond scene with ducks, birds and insects, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) diameter; the second - octofoil form, coloured in yellow, orange, pinks and turquoise, decorated with central roundel with a flowerhead, flanked with daily objects with ribbon swags, the yellow border with bats and clouds, 7 1/8in. (18cm.) diameter; the third - of square form with cantered corners, coloured in a bright pallet, featuring floral decorated roundels to the centre, 6 1/8in. (15.6cm.) wide, together with a smaller footed bowl, having four character seal mark to base and two large tea bowls with ribbed design and decorated with floral sprays, seal marks to bases. (6) * Condition: The square footed dish with rubbing to some of the roundels; the two octofoil dishes with frits to edges, some rubbing to decoration, other pieces with very little wear.

(7.3cm.) high. * Condition: Some small scratches to glaze to body. No chips, cracks or other damage.

A Chinese kraak porcelain blue and white dish, six character Chenghua mark to base within double concentric circles but later, Wanli period (1573-1619), circular with barbed rim, painted with two figures on horseback emerging from behind a cliff face, beside a lake, the rim painted with lotus flowers, scrolling vines and auspicious objects, the underside with sixteen lotus plants, 11 1/8in. (28.25cm.) diameter, chip to rim. * Condition: Chip to underside of rim with small hairline from base of chip. Some glaze flaking around the rim.

(23.2cm.) high, one a/f. (2) * Condition: Both with gilt wear. One vase in good condition with no damage. The other has extensive damage to one handle and the head is off the other - the majority of the pieces to repair are with the lot. Also has a hairline crack to foot.
