Japanese lacquer writing box, Edo period (18th Century), the box and cover decorated in gold, black and brown with a man washing in a waterfall, another man and water buffalo beside him, the interior in gold, black and mother of pearl inlays with flying birds and with a slate ink stone 20 x 22 x 4.5 cms- Soame Jenyns Collection Condition Report & Further Details Cover Small dent in sky. Some small blemishes on the edges.Small chip on corners.Inside the cover has a few small areas where the lacquer is worn and possibly filled.BaseUnsure whether the edge has been restored or whether it is just part of the decoration. CHINESE EXPORT BLUE AND WHITE PART TEA SERVICELATE 18TH/ EARLY 19TH CENTURY depicting pagodas and figures in landscapes, with gilt rims, comprising a teapot, 16.5cm high; four tea bowls, 7.5cm diam.; two small saucers, 11.5cm diam.; a larger saucer, 15.5cm diam.; and a plate, 20cm diam.; together with a similar CHINESE EXPORT BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN TEA CADDY, with matched lid, 14.5cm high (10)Provenance: From the estate of the late Dr. Nicholas Phillipson.
Group of assorted Oriental and European ceramic items to include: Yixing style clay teapot with applied relief polychrome decoration and four character impressed mark to the base, Chinese porcelain famille vert bowl, Chinese porcelain dragon bowl and English porcelain tea bowl with painted shell decoration. Together with a black glass seal bottle. (5)(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Teapot has chips to the cover and surface wear. The tea bowls are all grubby but with no obvious damage.The bottle is heavy with a significant chip to the rim.
Graduated set of three late 18th Century Chinese porcelain straight sided mugs with dragon form loop handles, overall decorated with reserve panels of Deutsche Blumen (German Flowers) after Meissen. 14cm, 13cm, 12cm high approx. (3)(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: All three handles have been broken off and staple repaired. Large tankard has chip to rim and frits. Middle size tankard has various small chips and frits to the rim but basically good. All with wear commensurate with age to decoration.
