A SET OF FIVE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE EXPORT PORCELAIN OCTAGONAL PLATES decorated after a Dutch Delft tile with two large hounds by a merchant's house by a river, floral border, 22cms wide, and two soup bowls ensuite, 22.5cm wide (8). Condition report: Plate 1: Small flake on rim, small chip and slight scratching and staining. Plate 2: 2 chips and one bruise. Plate 3: 2 small chips. Plate 4: 2 small chips and 2 small flakes. 5. First bowl|: 4 small chips/flakes and one small repair. 6. Second bowl: small flake on rim underside. COND REP OF EXTRA PLATE NEEDED
A CHINESE RETICULATED PORCELAIN LOZENGE SECTION LANTERN, 19th century, the neck painted with butterflies and pierced with Shou medallions, the body with circular panels of flowers and vases, on separate base, 31cm high overall. Condition report: One slight hairline from rim to medallion (runs 4cm)
INDUSTRIALIZATION OF CHINA PATRIOTIC COVERED JARLarge ceramic jar with lid, approx. 13" x 8 1/2" dia., painted with a scene of a city skyline dominated by power lines and cranes, framed against a setting sun and placed over a large illustration of peony blossoms, with the slogan "Socialism is Good" in Chinese. The base bears the makers mark of the Xiangjiang Porcelain Factory in Zhuzhou City, with the date 1967. Some minor blemishes, else fine.
CHINESE ENAMELED PORCELAIN TEA POTSmall circular Chinese teapot, 3 1/2" x 4 1/4", with a gently domed lid attached to the handle of the teapot by a chain, and with a small plug for the spout attached by the same chain. The teapot is of white porcelain, decorated in the famille rose style with images of flowers and butterflies. The handle bears molded articulations in the style of bamboo. Bears an unidentified seal stamp at the base, likely manufactured at the end of the nineteenth century. Slightly soiled, else very good.
"FISHERMAN" SNUFF BOTTLEWhite porcelain snuff bottle, approx. 3" x 1" dia., with a painted decoration depicting a fisherman in traditional Chinese garb, walking home with his catch in hand. Sealed with a stopper of translucent stone with an attached carved wood spoon. These bottles were used to carry snuff tobacco, which was permitted in nineteenth-century China for nominally medicinal purposes, while other forms of tobacco were outlawed. Unmarked, very good.
Chinese porcelain squat vase decorated with yellow and black glazed phoenix on a mottled grey ground, the base with six character Kangxi mark within two concentric circles, 14.75cm high Condition: There is a firing fault where the upper and lower half of the vase were joined approx half its height and covering approx one quarter of the circumference (see images) - **General condition consistent with age
Chinese porcelain baluster shaped vase having Famille Rose polychrome enamelled decoration on a mottled pale apple-green ground, the underside with faint six character mark on a pale green ground, 33.5cm high Condition: Firing fault around the top rim where the inner turquoise glaze has bubbled slightly and similar has occurred on the other side of the rim resulting in area approx 6mm x 5mm on both sides lacking glaze, there is a further firing fault approx half the height of the vase at its widest point which looks in many respects like a thumb print but appears to be a blister within the body beneath the glaze - **General condition consistent with age
Pair of 19th Century Chinese export porcelain two handled tea cups and saucers, each having blue and white painted decoration depicting a pagoda in a landscape and foliate sprays, diameter of saucers 15.25cm together with a Nankin ovoid teapot having gilt highlighted blue and white painted landscape decoration, 15.5cm high and four similar saucers, 12.75cm diameter Condition: Teapot lid with large chip from edge measuring approx 25mm x 5mm and a further flake to the upper edge rim approx 15mm x 8mm, the tip of the spout has nibbling approx 8mm x 4mm and the underside of the tip of the spout also nibbled, one of the cups has had a handle broken off and poorly restuck, the other cup has minor chip to the top rim, one of the larger saucers has faint hairline crack running across the well only visible from the underside, the other has minor chips to the top rim where the high points have been knocked off, the four smaller saucers: one with hairline crack approx 40mm with a small V section from the top missing, all pieces have minor rubbing to the gilding - **General condition consistent with age
FOUR CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE PORCELAIN PLAQUES, KANGXI 1662-1722 Painted with chrysanthemum, peony, lotus and prunus emerging from rocks, together with five bowls, variously decorated in blue and white, famille verte and gilt, moulded and painted with foliate designs, 13cm and 20.6cm max respectively. (9)
TWO CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE BOWLS AND A DISH, 17TH AND EARLY 18TH CENTURY One bowl kraak porcelain, painted with panels containing deer and foliage emerging from rocks, the other painted with dragons and stylized lotus above a band of ruyi head-shaped lappets, the base with a Chenghua mark, the dish with a central medallion depicting a peacock perched on rocks amongst spiny trees before an altar and auspicious objects, all encircled by foliate borders, 25.5cm. (3)
A CHINESE WHITE GLAZED BITONG, LATE QING DYNASTY Decorated in relief with a single figure carrying a fish through a rocky landscape, the base with a four character mark which reads Wang bin rong zhi, together with a rectangular box and cover, decorated in relief with a bird amongst pine and lingzhi, the sides with lotus and bamboo reserved on a green ground and a porcelain model of a peach, 13.7cm max.
