A pair of Chinese porcelain vase lamps,mid-19th century, each baluster-shaped vase with gilt 'mythical beast' handles and further decorated with beasts, insects, and flowering and fruiting foliage, within cast gilt-metal mounts, the drilled base with a pressed metal label 'Gagneau, rue d'Enghien 21'. 42cm high (2)These lamps were converted by Édouard and François Gagneau, the finest lampistes of the mid-19th century.No obvious major faults. Please note that these are NOT a true pair. One rim restored. Both with light surface scratches and tiny chips to the enamel.Rubbing and wear to gilding. Some slight knocks and dings to gilt-metal. Tarnish and discolouration. Requires wiring.
