It could be an entertainment scene, as court ladies were not allowed during formal meetings with officials. Ming to Qing Dynasty, Ca. 17th Century AD.A pair of Chinese Wucai (five-colored) porcelain vases and jars on European mounts. The vase is decorated with several panels depicting flowers, with a ruyi symbol on each corner of the panels, topped with a scrolling floral band right below the neck. The cover has a similar design. The gilded mounts are in the European style, fitted to support the porcelain vase. Qing Dynasty, Ca. 18th Century AD.A pair of Chinese Imari-styled chargers. The chargers are decorated with flowers and foliage in the Imari palette of red and blue with gold gilding, encircled by a thin blue ring on the edge. For similar examples, see Franks.376 and Franks.758.+ at the British Museum.Before becoming known as a style, Imari ware was initially a term used describe items that came from the Imari port. It became one of the foreign designs to be copied in Chinese porcelain production. Export porcelain was a large industry for China, and the designs of such items were usually altered to fit the local tastes of each target market. This lot displays a great example of such cultural exchange. Ming Dynasty, Wanli Period, Ca. AD 1572-1620.A pair of blue and white Kraak plates. The center of one depicts birds and plants, while the center of the other depicts insects and plants. Both plates have a band of cartouches with rotating motifs of plants and flowers. For a similar piece, see the British Museum: Franks.191. Kraak porcelain is the earliest form of export porcelain that appeared during the end of the Ming dynasty.
