A Chinese blue and white 'peony' dishQing dynasty, Kangxi period, apocryphal Jiajing six-character markDelicately painted to the centre and within a border to the rim with a meander of leafy scrolling peonies, the exterior with three further peony blooms, the mark within a double circle to base, 20.3cm diameter.清康熙 青花繪牡丹圖紋盤,青花楷書「大明嘉靖年製」款Known as 'the king of flowers' and the flower of 'wealth and honour', the peony (牡丹 mudan) was known in China since the 9th century BC at least, and known to have been grown in the gardens of the Imperial family since the Tang dynasty ( (618-907). One of the flowers of the four seasons, alongside lotus, chrysanthemum and prunus, peony was often exchanged as a gift to represent love and affection, and was an ever popular motif in porcelain decoration.Condition Report: Approx. 6mm v-shaped rim chip and associated long hairline, as well as 7mm wide infilled rim chip with associated shorter hairline.

A Chinese doucai 'Pronk' beaker and a famille rose 'Pronk-style' baluster jarQing dynasty, 18th centuryThe first, from a larger garniture of 'foxgrape' pattern; the second, enamelled in famille rose and iron red with a Pronk-style 'parrot' medallion, the beaker 15.7cm high, the baluster jar 11.2cm high (2).清十八世紀 鬥彩繪葡萄紋杯及粉彩繪鸚鵡圖紋罐Cornelis Pronk was a Dutch draughtsman, painter and porcelain designer, well known for his topographical paintings of the Dutch Republic. He was commissioned by the Dutch East India company in 1734 to produce drawings for porcelain plates to be made in Jingdezhen. The 'dame au parasol' was the most popular, but the 'foxgrape' was a well-known design his for garnitures of vases. The venture was abandoned in 1740 due to the high costs of production and transport, although many designs were revived later in the 18th century, based on surviving designs.The 'parrot on perch', similar to that on the present lot, was a design often attributed to him, despite a lack of direct evidence. The 'parrot' pattern can be found also on Meissen porcelain and Mekkum earthenware.cf. William Mothley and Cohen & Cohen in “Take Two!“, London, 2017, p. 114 and p. 122/123 for the 'foxgrape' pattern. Christies, Interiors, 14 December 2011 lot 549 for three vases with exactly the same parrot pattern.Condition Report: Foxgrape: fritting and restoration to two corner edge feet. the other with expected wear, nibbling to foot, and possible tiny hairline to shoulder.

The famille rose vase with notable rubbing to the decoration and some evidence of repainting and repair. The Imari style vase with scuffing to the foot and some abrasions to the body. The spill vase with rubbing to the decoration and light abrasions throughout.

Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618-907.A statuette of a female dancer wearing a long flowing gown with her hands hidden in sleeves. The bottom of her dress is red, and a long shawl hangs from her left shoulder. Her upper body is slightly bent to the side, with her left arm up in the air, indicating motion. The dancer herself is carefully modelled, with her hair done up, red pursed lips, delicate brows, and smiling eyes. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla.
