FOUR CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE PORCELAIN PLAQUES, KANGXI 1662-1722 Painted with chrysanthemum, peony, lotus and prunus emerging from rocks, together with five bowls, variously decorated in blue and white, famille verte and gilt, moulded and painted with foliate designs, 13cm and 20.6cm max respectively. TWO CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE BOWLS AND A DISH, 17TH AND EARLY 18TH CENTURY One bowl kraak porcelain, painted with panels containing deer and foliage emerging from rocks, the other painted with dragons and stylized lotus above a band of ruyi head-shaped lappets, the base with a Chenghua mark, the dish with a central medallion depicting a peacock perched on rocks amongst spiny trees before an altar and auspicious objects, all encircled by foliate borders, 25.5cm. A CHINESE WHITE GLAZED BITONG, LATE QING DYNASTY Decorated in relief with a single figure carrying a fish through a rocky landscape, the base with a four character mark which reads Wang bin rong zhi, together with a rectangular box and cover, decorated in relief with a bird amongst pine and lingzhi, the sides with lotus and bamboo reserved on a green ground and a porcelain model of a peach, 13.7cm max. A PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE ‘BARAGON TUMED’ BOWLS, DAOGUANG 1821-50 Painted to the exterior with the Seven Regal Treasures between bands of shou characters and Buddhist emblems, a flower roundel to the well, the bases with a two character Baragon Tumed mark, 14.1cm. (2) Provenance: formerly in a Dutch private collection, c.1960s. Cf. S Jennings, Later Chinese Porcelain, pl.CXII for another bowl from the same service. A FINE AND RARE CHINESE IMPERIAL YELLOW GLAZED ANHUA-DECORATED ‘CRANES’ DISH, SIX CHARACTER YONGZHENG MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD 1723-35 The shallow body with a gently flaring rim, delicately incised to the interior with a central medallion containing a pair of cranes standing beneath a pine tree, with lingzhi fungus emerging from the tree’s trunk and rockwork, the reverse with five bats in flight amongst clouds, 13.5cm. Provenance: purchased by Bluett & Sons from Carretier, 24th February 1937, for £3:4:0. The collection of Basil Drewe, purchased from Bluett & Sons on 13th August 1937, for £6, and thence by descent. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE CHINESE IMPERIAL DOUCAI JAR AND COVER, GUAN, SIX CHARACTER YONGZHENG MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD 1723-35 The ovoid body gently tapering at the foot, delicately painted in underglaze blue with two scaly yinglong (winged dragons) in flight amongst scrolling clouds, a band of scalloped lappets to the shoulder and foot embellished with doucai enamels, the circular flattened cover with a single yinglong within concentric bands, the base with a paper label for Bluett & Sons, London, 11cm across, 10.4cm high. (2) Provenance: a British private collection. Purchased from Bluett & Sons, London, 1st May 1946, for £9:10. Cf. The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours, p.233, no.214, where a comparable jar and cover from the Yongzheng reign is illustrated.
