A rare Arita blue and white Dish, c.1830, painted in the centre with the hare gazing at the moon within waves, the rim with false gadroons, pine, prunus, bamboo and chrysanthemum within a brown glazed pie crust rim, the underside with waves, four character seal mark of Daoguang, chip, cracks, wear, 28cm It is rare to find as late a Chinese reign mark as Daoguang (1821-50) on Japanese porcelain; Ming marks are far more common. Condition Report A number of cracks running from rim down sides. One of these cracks has losses to rim associated with it. Wear to glaze, especially in centre.
A Chinese Imperial porcelain blue and white Stem Bowl, Qianlong seal mark and period, 1736-1795, painted on the exterior with the Eight Buddhist emblems, each above a lotus bloom, the interior with a shou character, set on a foot of ammonite scrolls, florets and 'S' scrolls, six character seal mark of Qianlong, rim ground and restored, 18.5cm diameter Condition Report Haircrack restored and minor rubbing to the rim.
A Chinese 'soft paste' porcelain blue and white small circular Box and Cover, 18th/19th century, painted with a dragon and flaming pearl above rocks and crested waves, leaf mark within a double ring, 5.6cm diameter Provenance: formerly in a Scandinavian private collection. An unusual celadon-ground Vase, early 19th century, painted in underglaze blue with the 'Hundred Boys' at various pursuits including bird fancying, lighting fireworks and the legend of Ssu Ma Kuang, and enhanced in bright enamels and gilding with flowers, butterflies, birds and fruit the neck with seeded blue dragon handles, slight wear, 62.3cm Ssu Ma Kuang was a Song sage who, in his boyhood, had saved a young companion, who had fallen into a large jar, by smashing it with a stone. While frequently found on Kakiemon, Chelsea and Meissen, it is uncommon on Chinese porcelain. Condition Report Losses to gilded decoration. Some small areas of enamel loss. A pair of 18th century Chinese porcelain circular plates, painted in underglaze blue with a pagoda scene, unmarked, diameter 20cm. CONDITION REPORT: One has chip of approx 1cm across the rim to the glaze at 2 o'clock. The other has a slightly larger chip at 2:30 and an associated hairline crack of approx 1cm.
