Two Chinese Canton enamel small quatrefoil section wine cups, each decorated with Europeans at leisure in a garden scene, two small silver-coloured metal hexagonal-section wine cups cast with calligraphy, animals, birds and landscapes, and two porcelain small saucers decorated with red-capped cranes. Some slight damage. 18th century and later, 8cm. max. (6)
A Chinese famille rose plate, decorated with flowers and foliage, 18th century, 23cm., and a Chinese famille rose armorial bowl, decorated with flowers and foliage, the armorial crest is probably that of Gamon of Hertfordshire (Richard Gamon, b.1748, was MP for Winchester). A rare Chinese porcelain Ding, simulation bronze, of archaic form, each side decorated with taotie masks, and raised on splayed feet, the body splashed with turquoise and heightened with gilding, the base with a moulded six character Qianlong mark, but probably 19th century, all on an elaborate and reticulated hard wood stand, the cover set with a jade knop. Minor repairs. 44.5cm. overall. (3)
A 19th century Chinese blue and white porcelain snuff bottle of cylindrical form with sloping shoulders and short neck, the main body decorated with a continuous battle scene of soldiers outside a building with an archer firing arrow, the blue and white with additional grey and red colouring, unsigned, 8.75 cm high
A pair of 18th century Chinese Armorial en grisaille decorated bowls, circa 1745 the rim decorated with flower sprigs to each side and crests to top and bottom, the well with gilt spearhead border and decorated with a copy of a European print 'The Rescue of Andromeda' showing Perseus driving his sword into the sea monster (2) 23.5cm diameter 'Data fata secutus' translates as 'Following my destiny.' 'Luceo non uro' translates as 'I shine not burn.'The crest is that of the MacKenzie family. This service was probably made for Major William MacKenzie, grandson of Kenneth MacKenzie, 4th Earl of Seaforth. A Chinese blue painted 'Red Cliff' vase Kangxi mark and period with flared neck and square tapered body, the neck decorated with bamboo, two sides decorated with the two 'Odes to the Red Cliff' by the Song poet Su Dongpo (1037 - 1096) , two sides with finely painted landscapes, unglazed foot rim with glazed recess bearing six character Kangxi mark 55cm high This is one of a number of 'Red Cliff ' vases made in the 1690's and painted with identical scenes, possibly taken from woodblock prints, which appear to be from the same kiln in Jingdezhen. For the nearest similar example see Curtis, 'Chinese Porcelain of the Seventeenth Century ' 1995, no 26. For other examples see S. The Red Cliffs of the poem was purported to be the site of the Battle of the Red Cliffs in 208 AD.
