A FRENCH SILVERED BRASS PORCELAIN INSET MANTEL CLOCK GARNITURE IN THE CHINESE TASTEUNSIGNED, LATE 19th CENTURYThe eight-day single train movement with oval plates flattened across the top edge to take the balance platform, with unusual duplex escapement lever escapement incorporating escape wheels set between the plates regulated by sprung monometallic balance, the backplate stamped 5864, the porcelain dial with polychrome rosette painted centre within turquoise ground cartouche chapter ring with vertically aligned Arabic hour numerals, the case modelled as a cushion-mounded drum decorated with geometric bands suspended via strapwork side mounts and chains within a stand with stylised scroll cast and pierced arched top member, over conforming shaped side uprights applied to ogee-shaped platforms united by a dragon panel-centred stretcher, the whole set on a rectangular platform base inset with a porcelain panel polychrome painted with shaped floral cartouche within stylised simulated cloisonne decorated gul inhabited yellow field and a repeating flowerhead painted chocolate ground outer border, the base of ogee form with stylised lion mask to the shaped apron and incorporating scroll feet at the angles; the twin candelabra side pieces with pierced crests over rectangular porcelain inset screen panels decorated with putti within yellow ground borders opposing guls to verso, flanked by scroll shaped side sconces over rectangular convex moulded bases with pierced apron and scroll feet.The clock 35cm (13.75ins) high, 31cm (12.25ins) wide, 16.5cm (6.5ins) deep; the candelabra 28cm (11ins) high, 25.5cm (10ins) wide, 9cm (3.5ins) deep.

A Chinese porcelain panel, circa 1900, over enamel decoration depicting a mountainous landscape with village below, 25.5cm x 38cm, rosewood frame 43.5cm x 61cm. Condition - visible areas of porcelain appear damage free, however, the edges have not been inspected, later plywood back, minor losses to frame.

A Chinese porcelain figure of a seating smiling Buddha in a yellow ground famille rose gown bearing impressed seal mark to base 26 cm high together with an associated silkwork smoker's hat with tassel top and birds amongst foliage decoration to fit the Buddha on a bespoke wooden plinth base together with the pine box bearing paper labels to sides "Capt. L. Sawyer, the Leicestershire Regiment" CONDITION REPORTS The Buddha - in need of a clean, dirty especially to various crevices. Otherwise general wear and tear, some minor surface scratches, losses to the decoration, firing faults etc. The silk cap is very worn, appears to be older than the Buddha itself, has fraying to the edges, very badly discoloured, losses to the stitching throughout. The wooden stand has wear to some of the edges and surface scratches etc. The carry case/box is very rough in construction, has splits to the pine, the paper labels are torn and missing in various places, wear and tear conducive with age and use, has clearly protected the item itself - see images for more details on all pieces in lot

A late 18th Century Chinese porcelain baluster shaped vase, the main body polychrome decorated with birds and butterflies amongst blossoming foliage raised on a circular foot 16 cm high together with a prunus blossom decorated ginger jar (no lid) 12.5 cm high, an Imari scallop edged bowl decorated with various fish, crayfish etc 18.5 cm diameter and a willow pattern transfer decorated leaf shaped pickle dish 13 cm x 10.5 cm CONDITION REPORTS The polychrome vase has some losses to the decoration, chips to the glaze at the bottom edge and the top rim. General surface scratches, firing faults etc. The pickle dish is heavily crazed. All items have general wear and tear to include some surface scratches etc. All in need of a very good clean, filthy. Four Chinese blue and white porcelain vases and a ginger jar19th centuryof shouldered baluster form, all with four character Kangxi marks, the first with figures in a landscape with two buildings and a bridge, the second with a pair dragons chasing the flaming pearl, the third with prunus, chrysthanemums and birds, the fourth with two figures holding a vase and the last a small ginger jar, (5)Condition: The first has small chips and a more noticeable one, see image. The second has 2 small chips to its rim, one more noticeable than the other. Imperfections and some spotting to the glaze. The third with noticeable wear and chips to half way round its base edge. The fourth with a tiny nick to its rim, tiny chip to base edge. The last, the ginger jar with a tiny nick to its foot.

Some rubbing to gilt and other areas of red.  The other example with an 8cm hairline crack and a 3cm crack with chip at its onset. There is also a large old repair 20cm long and 7cm deep into the charger. Some nibbles to edges in places.

Late Qing. 13cm high approx. (B.P. 21% + VAT) The lid is missing and there is some minor wear to the enamels below the neck. Short hairline crack to base and one chip to the body.

No chips or restoration.

Cooke CollectionThe collection was started in the 1920s by Phil’s father – who bought at that time from Sir Algernon Tudor-Craig, the eminent London dealer and first author of a book on armorial wares, from his gallery ‘The Century House’ in Knightsbridge, which closed around 1929. Phil continued collecting, buying much from the collector/dealer Cecil Bullivant, and by the 1960s, his collection had become the largest in the world. My late husband first met him in the late ’50s, and his first volume of Chinese Armorial Porcelain illustrates 220 examples from the Cooke Collection.Angela HowardThanks to Angela Howard of Heirloom & Howard Ltd. for her assistance in cataloguing this lot. The coat is of Chester of Royston and Cockenheath in Hertfordshire, Ermine on a chief sable a griffin passant or. The Chester family came originally from Derbyshire, but the ancestor of this branch came to prominence when Sir Robert Chester was a gentleman of the Privy Chamber to King Henry VIII. Made for Robert Chester, an East India Company director, and also a director and promoter of the South Sea Company. Three similar services were made in the Chinese Imari palette for three SS Co. associates. No cracks or restoration. A tiny nick to the rim, which appears to take glaze rather than body. In generally good condition.

TWO CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN BOTTLE VASES, KANGXI PERIOD each vase of pear-form and raised on a tall, spreading foot. decorated on the body with vertical panels alternately enclosing 'antiques' or fan-shaped designs, and on the neck with leaf tip borders, which also decorate the foot. (2) 25cm highOne with chips to the foot rim. The other with 5cm hairline crack issuing from the rim of the neck. The same vase with a rim chip to the neck rim.
