There are a few marks to the interior but this is detritus. A couple of pitting marks,. Also pitting marks to the underside of the base. The bowl could be late Guangxu, circa 1900 to 1905. Equally it could be slightly later.

The small rice wine cup has some fritting to the rim, some losses to the glaze and decoration to the exterior which is quite textured and there are chips to the rims on the tea bowls and general surface wear.

Three Chinese 20th century porcelain sang de boeuf glazed vases comprising bulbous example with flared neck, height 25cm and a pair of bulbous vases with cylindrical necks, raised on matched hardwood stands, height 16cm (3).Additional InformationThe larger vase bears stamp which possibly states 'Made in China', numerous chips to the foot rim, staining to the top rim. The smaller vases are with matched stands, crazing is evident throughout, the smaller vases with seal mark to base.

Eight 18th century Chinese porcelain export ware plates and bowls to include blue and white examples decorated with landscape scenes, an example decorated with cockerels fighting, diameter 23cm, also a later example (9).Additional InformationThe later example is heavily af, with old repair and has been broken into two and crudely glued. One of the blue and white bowls with hairline cracks to rim, the second example has been broken and crudely repaired. Two of the Chinese plates, to include an octagonal example, with old repairs. The cock fighting example has been broken in two and crudely glued. Each of the Imari examples appear fine, with just minimal chips to the edges. Two blue and white examples again appear to be fine, with just the usual rim chips.

Six 18th century Chinese porcelain plates to include a Famille Rose example, diameter of largest example 23.5cm (6).Additional InformationThe Famille Rose example with tight hairline crack and rim chips. One of the blue and white examples with tiny chip to rim. Light scratches and wear evident throughout, one is badly af and has been broken in two and crudely repaired. Another example with glaze faults and large crack to the reverse.

A Chinese Famille Verte rucai porcelain ginger jar painted with stylised birds and floral sprays within auspicious symbols, bearing four character Kangxi mark to base, height 18cm, together with a Chinese crackle glaze twin handled vase decorated with battle scenes, height 29cm, etc (4).Additional InformationGeneral wear throughout, the larger Famille Verte vase is lacking the cover, minor losses to the decoration. Minor staining in parts to the smaller crackle glazed jar.

The plate with glaze imperfections, crazing is evident. Light scratches to the bodies, one of the small prunus jars with a sliver chip to the foot rim.

The double gourd vase has been restored crudely around the top neck. One of the small blue and white pots with hairline crack and old repair to the top. The example with the white background with minimal wear, otherwise good.

The vase painted with objects of virtue with a u-shaped piece which has been broken out and crudely glued. General wear throughout.

The tea cup and saucer are good with minimal signs of wear, the bowl with a tiny fault to the foot rim possibly a chip/fault, otherwise good. The Chinese longevity bowl with scratches and numerous faults to the glaze, the Famille Rose dish is af with large cracks running through and numerous chips. In both his personal collection and in his bequests to cultural institutions, J.M. Hu stood as a model of the modern scholar-collector. He established the Min Chiu Society in Hong Kong alongside fellow collectors K.P. Chen and J.S. Lee. He also gifted substantial group from his collection to the Shanghai Museum in 1950 and 1989; many of these objects remain on view in the museum's Zande Lou Gallery. His family's set of Imperial zitan furniture was sent to the National Palace Museum in Taipei for display; and he returned the important 'Siming' version of the Huashan Temple stele rubbing to the Palace Museum, Beijing.
