CHINESE NANKING CARGO TEA BOWL AND SAUCER x 2. CHRISTIES AUCTION NUMBER 5109-5110 A Chinese Nanking Cargo Tea Bowl and Saucer A Nanking Cargo Blue and White Porcelain Tea Bowl, and saucer painted in underglaze with a pavilion and willow trees atop a rocky hill, within a cross-hatched border. Lot 5109 A fantastic piece of history to own. The Geldersmalsen, a Dutch East Indiaman sank in 1751. The cargo was recovered by Captain Michael Hatcher and associate in the South China Seas, and was auctioned by Christie's at Amsterdam 28th April-2nd May 1986. In lovely condition complete with original auction stickers.
A Chinese blue and white 'nine' dragon bottle vase, Jiaqing mark and period (1796-11820), the rounded sides rising from a short straight foot, to a tapering cylindrical neck, painted with six dragons chasing a flaming pearl amongst trailing clouds and flame scrolls, with three dragons emerging from swirling waves, with a thin band of ruyi below the rim and a thin band of key-fret at the foot, the six character seal mark in underglaze-blue 30.5cm high.Provenance: English private collection since the 1880s. Condition Report: There is a 5cm by 8cm semi-circular section of the rim that has been broken and re-glued. There is also a long arcing crack running from near to the foot across the body, approx 27cmFootnote:The design of nine dragons painted amongst trailing clouds, flame scrolls and swirling waves derives from imperial designs of the earlier Qianlong period (1736-1795). CHINESE CANTON FAMILLE ROSE ARMORIAL PART SERVICE - GRANT early 19thc including a large lidded tureen, painted with a variety of court figures and attendants within a landscape scene, the borders with various flowers and insects and with an armorial to the lid and base (Craiglachie Stand Fast, and a crest for Grant). Also with a matching oval dish, a smaller lidded tureen, small dish and a plate. Large tureen 34cms across, 26cms high.
