† A RARE CHINESE GE TYPE CONG SIX CHARACTER QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1736-95 The archaistic body moulded in shallow relief with trigrams to the corners, beneath a thick pale grey glaze with dark grey crackles throughout, one side pierced with two pairs of small circular holes, possibly for suspension, the splayed foot with two slotted apertures, 29cm. A LARGE CHINESE CANTON FAMILLE ROSE ARMORIAL BOWL C.1813 Brightly decorated to the interior with a panel containing figures in the sea with large fish and sea creatures, with further figures on the shoreline engaged in various pursuits, all encircling a central roundel of figures, the exterior with similarly decorated panels, reserved on dense gilt grounds of flowers, birds, butterflies and fruit, the Arms of Clerke (or Claerk), and with the motto ‘MUNUS ET MONUMENTUM VICTORIA HENRY VIII SPURS 1513’, 53.5cm. Cf. D S Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, p.785, where an oval dish from this service is illustrated. This service was almost certainly made to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Battle of Spurs in which King Henry VIII was the victor, and was most likely made for Sir John Clerke of Weston. 1813年代 廣彩人物故事紋大碗
A CHINESE DOUCAI BOWL SIX CHARACTER QIANLONG MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1736-95 The ogee-shaped bowl decorated with a central six-pointed medallion formed from ruyi-heads, the rim with six lingzhi motifs, the exterior painted with a continuous flowering lotus scroll, beneath the eight Buddhist Emblems, the foot with a band of lappets, 22cm. Provenance: a private collection in the south of England, purchased in Shanghai in the 1920s, and thence by descent. Cf. Catalogue of the Special Exhibition of Ch’eng-Hua Porcelain Ware, 1465-1487, p.180, no.188, where a prototype of this design is illustrated. † A FINE AND RARE CHINESE DOUCAI SMALL LINGZHI BOWL SIX CHARACTER YONGZHENG MARK AND OF THE PERIOD 1723-35 The gently flaring body delicately decorated with four pairs of ruyi-heads, separated by florets extending to leafy tendrils, all contained within concentric bands, the interior glazed white, 10.4cm. Provenance: purchased in Hong Kong in the 1950s or ‘60s, by repute. Cf. A PAIR OF CHINESE MINIATURE PORCELAIN MODELS OF HOUNDS EARLY 18TH CENTURY Each resting on its hind quarters, the ribs protruding from its sides, its mouth open to reveal its teeth and with a ribbon about its neck, decorated in a pale blue-white glaze, 7.5cm. A RARE CHINESE PORCELAIN RECTANGULAR PANEL BY WANG YE TING DATED 1922 Depicting a lone figure on a bridge in a mountainous landscape, crossing towards a small village, and with an inscription which reads ren wu dong ten yi yue wang ri de zhuang ren er ya zheng di Liang Jing Sheng zeng (given as a gift by Liang Jing Sheng to his brother), together with a red seal mark, the artist’s signature to the reverse, 43.2cm x 26cm. Provenance: an English private collection. This panel was formerly mounted as the surface of an occasional table.
A RARE CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE ARMORIAL STAND C.1720 For the Portuguese market, the shallow body raised on a cylindrical footed base, decorated to the well with the arms of Sampaio Melo e Castro, encircled by foliate scrolls and with a band of lotus, peony and chrysanthemum to the rim, 29.4cm. Cf. N de Castro, Chinese Porcelain and the Heraldry of the Empire, p.65, where the author notes that this was the fourth service made for Francisco José de Sampaio Melo e Castro, who was 11th Lord of Vila Flor, Military Governor of the Alentejo, Councillor of State, 66th Governor and 40th Viceroy of India between 1720-23, and who died in Goa in 1723.
