A CHINESE YELLOW AND GREEN 'DRAGON' BOWL LATE QING DYNASTY Decorated with two incised dragons chasing pearls above waves in green against a yellow ground, the base with a four character mark in underglaze blue which reads qing huan zhenpin (precious object of splendour) indicating it was made for the use of a first rank concubine, 16.2cm. Provenance: Orchardleigh Park, Christie's 21-22 Sep 1987, lot 516, £320. Cf. A CHINESE PORCELAIN INCENSE STICK HOLDER PROBABLY LATE QING Moulded in relief with boys and water buffaloes in a rocky river landscape and with a four character inscription, the base inscribed Dao guang si you chen guo zhi zuo, together with a small blue and white seal paste box and cover decorated with a figure in a mountainous landscape, the base with a six character Kangxi mark, 11.6cm max. A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE BAXIAN INCENSE BURNER KANGXI 1662-1722 The cylindrical body painted with a continuous scene of the Eight Immortals celebrating Shoulao's birthday, all with their various attributes, Shoulao sits on a rock with an attendant and a deer, all between chevron borders and raised on three rectangular feet, a reticulated wood stand, 19.8cm. (2) Provenance: a Scottish private collection. Cf. A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'THREE FRIENDS OF WINTER' JAR LATE MING DYNASTY The lobed ovoid body painted with a flock of sparrows among bamboo, pine and prunus, the shoulder with lappet decoration and the rim with key fret pattern, 14.7cm. Cf. M Butler, M Medley and S Little, Seventeenth Century Chinese Porcelain from the Butler Family Collection, p.37 for a similar jar.
A CHINESE IMPERIAL PORCELAIN ALTAR VASE QIANLONG 1736-95 With an ovoid body and cylindrical knopped neck raised on a wide domed foot, finely enamelled in iron-red with lotus sprays above a band of stiff leaves, the neck with a key fret border, 22.2cm. Cf. An identical altar vase can be seen in the painting by Giuseppe Castiglione in The National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrating the Emperor Qianlong beneath trees and beside a table with a number of other treasures; see Palastmuseum Peking Schätze aus der Verbotenen Stadt, Berlin, 1985, no.41, pl.24. A CHINESE PORCELAIN 'RECLINING LADY' SNUFF BOTTLE QING DYNASTY With her legs crossed, brightly enamelled and gilded, wearing turquoise trousers and an iron-red jacket, touching her cheek and holding a kerchief, the stopper formed as her foot, 11cm. A MASSIVE CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE DISH LATE QING DYNASTY / REPUBLIC PERIOD Painted on the interior with two intertwining prunus branches which extend from the reverse, one branch with white flowers with a greeny-yellow tinge, the other branch with flowers with a pink tinge, two large lingzhi sprays sprout from the base of one branch and are balanced by a flowering peony to the left, the reverse with an apocryphal six character Yongzheng mark, 52.8cm. Provenance: from the estate of Mr Klaus Henrich, purchased in the 1970s. Cf.
