Captured by Captain Hubert William Ponsonby 5th Baron De Mauley - an original WWI First World War Imperial German Army M16 infantry helmet. The helmet retaining its original leather liner and chin strap, named inside with initials. The rim stamped ET64 to corner. Supplied within an associated but period box. A rare helmet with some interesting provenance. Obtained from his estate. Ponsonby was decorated with the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honour. He succeeded to the title of 5th Baron De Mauley of Canford, Dorset on 15th March 1945. NOTE - Further items relating to Ponsonby can be found in lot 225 and 300.

The collection comprising several original black and white photographs of German soldiers and vehicles, a Deutsche Wehrmacht armband, a NSDAP member's badge and other items. Interesting collection.
A charming antique 1920's / 1930's British made large jointed teddy bear, as owned by a Mrs Peggy Watson. ' Ted ' stayed with Mrs Watson all throughout her time in WWII, whilst she worked in the Land Army. After the war Mrs Watson pinned her War Medal and Land Army badge to the bear where it has remained ever since. The bear being a well loved golden-mohair example of unknown origin. Jointed legs and arms, with some repairs present. Measures approx; 49cm tall.

An unusual WWII Second World War (and post-War) related personal photograph album belonging to a serving soldier of the British Army. The photograph album contains several macabre / unusual photographs including those of a beheading, disfigured locals, funerals etc as well as the usual views of sites, local life etc. Several pages of the album are neatly decorated with the countries visited - Persia, Iraq, Arabia, Palestine, etc. Local currency can also be found to the rear of the album. The front cover has the name W E Matthews of C Company, 10th Yorkshire Regiment in ink above the title. Trench Map: Watou and Houtkerque area. Belgium and France Sheet 27 NE, edition 3, published by the Ordnance Survey December 1917. Coded in bottom l/h corner GS GS 2742. On folding linen on a scale of 1:20,000. Size 89 by 65 cm. A detailed key includes information on British and enemy trenches, wire entanglements, dug-outs, huts, buried cables and pipelines etc. as well as railways, trench tramways and houses. Some wear to about 10 cm along one of the folds in the linen but no actual tear. Original owner’s name to reverse. The owner served in the Durham Light Infantry and the Northumberland Fusiliers and was wounded in France.The Times War Atlas. Published by the Times of London, no date but circa late 1914. Seven sheets of maps on linen, each 62 by 46 cm. Scales vary. They comprise: Northern France;Alsace Lorraine, Heligoland, Kiel Canal, Posen, the mouth of the Ems, and three other small maps;North Western France;Eastern Germany and Poland;Paris and environs;Western Germany;The Area of Fighting in Galicia, East and West Prussia, Posen and the Russian frontier, German South West Africa, German East Africa and Cameroon.The maps all feature various theatres of war but show no stages of the actual conflict, probably indicating that these preceded any larger bound publications by the Times during the war.

Heights indicated by shading or hachuring. Was originally colour coded to show the possessions of the various European powers but little colour remains. Occasional foxing to one sea area. Some tears to the margins outside the map have been closed to the reverse with archival quality tape. Survey of India Map: Koko Nor, with parts of China and Tibet. Published by the Survey of India, Calcutta 1926 from an original survey in 1893. On linen size 69 by 62 cm. Scale 1:2,000,000. Stamped “for official use only”. Includes part of the Great Wall. A rare and unique 1925 presentation hallmarked silver cigar box ' To B.K.C - From The British Officers Of The Camel Corps - October 1925 '. The dedication being to that of Brian Kennedy-Cooke, Colonial Administrator and later Brigadier of the British Army in WWII. The silver hallmarked cigar / cigarette box hallmarked for William Hutton & Sons, Birmingham, 1925. The lid has been engraved with the facsimile autographs of all the serving officers at the time, including: Arthur Chater, RG Douglas, H.T. Hewitt, and others - many of which went on to have distinguished military careers. A rare and unique piece of military history. Consigned from family. The Sudan Defence Force (SDF) was a locally recruited British-led force formed in 1925 to assist the police in the event of civil unrest, and to maintain the borders of British administered Sudan. During the Second World War, it also served beyond the Sudan in the East African Campaign and in the Western Desert Campaign.Note - a medal from the same family follows in Lot 451

An original WWII Second World War US Army American OSS (Office Of Strategic Services) issued ' hidden compass ' razor set. The set being a standard US Army issue ' Khaki Set ' razor blade set. The handle with small compartment containing a ' spinner ' compass (for use in water). Appears complete. Rare piece of secret equipment. From the collection of the late Arthur Muggeridge - Arthur T. Muggeridge, born 18th December 1919 - it’s thought he spent most of WW2 in the Royal Artillery and was at Dunkirk in 1940 during the evacuations and was minorly injured by Luftwaffe bombing whilst on one of the navy ships. He later took part in a special raid called Operation Claymore 4th March 1941 in Norway where he was injured once again in the leg by shrapnel. Later again, he was injured a third time when a field artillery gun misfired causing deafness which is believed to have resulted in him being discharged from the military. In his later life he collected mainly military items and particularly spy / clandestine objects. Whilst visiting Devon in the 1960's he became acquainted with Charles Frazer Smith who had worked for MI6 & MI9 in the war, and designed spy items for the SOE and others. Arthur died aged 91 after a short illness on 27th Feb 2010. His amassed collection is now being offered for sale by his family.

Makers marks for Alex Coppel Solingen, markings to the crossguard ' .26.R.16.155 ' and further markings to the spine of the blade. Measures; 40cm overall.
A rare set of original 1930's / 1940's Third Reich Nazi Germany wax candles in original box, by repute removed from the Fuhrerbunker by a British soldier. The box decorated with a label to reverse which features a printed message from Adolf Hitler. The label depicts the German eagle, with Swastika motif. x10 unused candles still remain within the box. By repute this box of candles was recovered from the Fuhrerbunker by a Royal Artillery soldier serving in the British Army. No provenance supplied (story passed through generations of family). A rare and unusual item, with some interesting history. Each candle approx; 18cm tall.
A WWI FIrst World War Imperial German Army SG 98/05 Mauser rifle ' Butcher ' bayonet having a diagonal ribbed wooden shaped grip, steel pommel with press release stud and ordnance mark, steel backstrap, guard, rear facing quilon, fullered single edged Falchion blade, marked ricasso ' Waffenfabrik Mauser-A.G. Oberndorf a.n. ' along with the original steel scabbard. The blade dated 1918 to the back of the blade. Measures; 52cm overall.

Single decal variation, the rim stamped ' DN88 ' to rear and ' NS64 ' to side - made by Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke, Schwerte. Retains original leather liner and chin strap. Generally an excellent used example - some scratches to top, and a small dent to the top dead centre above the rim (see pictures). Otherwise a rare example.

A scarce original WWII Second World War No.3 Commando D Troop uniform cloth patch. The small patch of square form, featuring a white skull inside a blue letter ' D ' on a green cloth ground. A rare patch. No. 3 Commando was a battalion-sized Commando unit raised by the British Army during the Second World War. Formed in July 1940 from volunteers for special service, it was the first such unit to carry the title of "Commando". Shortly afterwards the unit was involved in a largely unsuccessful raid upon the German-occupied Channel Island of Guernsey.
