By 1789 he seems to have been in Paris, probably as a result of the scandal surrounding his unseating from the parliamentary constituency of Colchester for corrupt practises. In June 1789 he petitioned the National Assembly for an exclusive right to open a workshop to decorate and print on glass and ceramics but was turned down. He nevertheless took premises on the Rue de Crussol under the name Manufacture du prince de Galles and completed his first order in 1790 before selling the company to its director, Louis Blancheron in 1794. Around this time he re-opened the Chantilly Factory, closed because of the revolution and had further potteries at Montereau and Forges-les-Eaux. Cf. Victoria and Albert museum, no. C.20-1913 for a smaller mug of similar shape with different decoration but similar mark.
