The metalwork of the hilt and scabbard have a dull finish. The thin celluloid grip is cracked and broken.

A Japanese Army Officer's Kyu-Gunto Sword, the unsigned 66cm hand forged steel blade with narrow fuller to the back edge, copper one piece habaki, the gilt metal hilt with prunus pierced and cast shallow guard, long curved knucklebow, the wire bound grip with traces of original wray skin, the pebbled backstrap set with a silver mon and with prunus side panels and pommel, with steel scabbard, 93.5cm. Pitting and delamination marks to the blade, with a small nick to the edge. The tang has orange rust pitting. The grip has patches of wray skin missing and some wire loss.The backstrap has some bruising. The press stud functions. The scabbard has cleaned off rust pitting.

Leather washer is missing so crossguard is jiggly. The leather grip is scuffed and lacking its wire binding. Lacks original pommel. Scabbard chape is missing one securing screw and has some patches of oxidisation to the surface.
