Personal correspondence of a Derby family, starting in 1944 and extending to the 1970s, including voluminous correspondence to Beryl Brothwood of Moore Street, Derby, from RAF LAC Tony 1944-1951, then from other affectionate male admirers up until at least 1967, also correspondence to Beth, Mrs. George Johnston of Chaddesden from June (Mrs. Ray Timbers) in Oxfordshire, other letters, mainly affectionate from a number of admirers to Lilian, Mrs. S. Green of Sunnyhill, Box 1 (pink) is mainly the Beryl-Tony correspondence (weekly if not more frequent) with some Johnston letters, Box 2 contains the remainder with later letters to Beryl Brothwood. Some postal history, eg. Army Post Office/BOAR franking's, a few small photographs, mostly unlabelled, of people, including Olive, from Cheshire. Beryl Brothwood has proved very elusive in the published public records, but appears to have been born in Wolverhampton to a Miss Taylor (later Brothwood) inn 1928 and died in Ivy Leigh, Liverpool 13 in 2001 and to have remained unmarried despite the numerous letters to her from admirers. Lilian R Green, nee Fletcher, was born in Derby in 1919, and married Joseph W. Green (who died in 1956) in 1941. qty (2 boxes)

Maltese cross, with raised edges, mounted with Guelphic Crown strap inscribed "Nilgiri Volunteer Rifles", centrally a stag's head with strung bugle between the antlers. Four screw posts to reverse. VGC Formed on 29th October 1878. Honorary Colonel was The Governor of Madras.

Honourable East India Company Artillery Victorian Officer's waist belt clasp circa 1855-61. A very fine and scarce full dress gilt example. Two oval gilt seeded plates with raised burnished edges and plain belt loops; each bearing the crest of the Company in gilt and joined together by a snake hook fastening. VGC The entire HEIC army was transferred from the Company to the Crown on 1st November 1858 as a result of the Indian Mutiny. In 1861, the Indian Army was completely reorganised.

A crowned eight pointed star with laurel sprays and central circle, "3rd or Royal Westminster Middlesex", in the centre on a ground of yellow velvet a strung bugle horn over a shield, per pale, Westminster and Middlesex. across the base of the laurels a scroll, "Mediterranean". Boer War / WW1 24th (Westmoreland and Cumberland) Coy. Imperial Yeomanry Group of Three Medals Awarded to Lieutenant John Henry Mashiter, who served during the Boer War with the 24th Company Imperial Yeomanry and was commissioned into the Army Service Corps. Comprising: Queen's South Africa Medal, bearing the four clasps "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State", "Transvaal", "South Africa 1901". "3908 PTE J.H. MASHITER 24TH COY IMP YEO"., British War Medal, Victory Medal "LIEUT". Medals loose. Private John Henry Mashiter a native of Kendal joined the Westmoreland & Cumberland Yeomanry in January 1900 and landed in South Africa the following month. He returned to the UK on the 9th June 1901. The four clasps are confirmed. At the outbreak of the Great War, he rejoined the Yeomanry and landed in France on the 18th November 1916 and in November of that year was commissioned into the Army Service Corps.

The June 1914 Army list shows every Officer serving at that time. Professionally bound in red leather and gilt tooled to the front with the device of The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. An ink inscription indicates the list was bound by Gale & Polden of Aldershot in 1930 and is signed by the General. Good clean condition.

Army Medical Staff Victorian Officer's Cocked Hat. A good and extremely rare example. Black silk bicorne, the front and fan 6 in. and 7 in. high respectively. Black silk rosette under a bright gilt metal scale loop fastened with a gilt Medical Staff button. A gold bullion tassel with worked head at each end. A band of black oakleaf lace between the loop and the tassels. Fine glazed leather headband and pleated crimson silk lining. At the centre of the top, a square plume-socket with spring-clip. The very distinctive metal scaled loop is prescribed for Medical Staff in the 1864 issue of Dress Regulations. The dimensions of the cocked hat given in 1864 were larger than this. In the next edition (10 years later), the dimensions of the hat were like this example but meanwhile the unusual metal loop had been discontinued

Austrian Army WW1 Officer's Field Cap A good scarce example, of "floppy" dark blue cloth, tailored with fold down cold weather ear protectors. To the front a black leather peak and "FJI" gilt brass device and two plain buttons. The interior with leather sweatband. GC. This style of cap was adopted by Officers during the Great War for use in the front line.

Army Medical Staff Victorian pre 1855 Officer's Coatee. A rare and important example of the pre-Crimean double-breasted scarlet uniform. Ten fine gilt ribbed buttons each side in front, bearing a crowned star with the VR cypher superimposed within a strap inscribed MEDICAL STAFF. Scarlet collar with two rows of narrow red twist at each end, attached to small gilt buttons. Scarlet cuffs and cuff-slashes, the latter with four rows of red twist and buttons. Very narrow white edging to fronts, collar, cuffs and cuff-slashes. Plain skirts with white turnbacks; skirt ornaments absent or never fitted. Brass epaulette-fixings. Fine quilted buff silk lining. Minor moth damage and some stitching-faults.

WW1 Royal Devon Yeomanry Artillery Army Pilot's Officer's Tunic. A rare tunic worn by Captain D.A. Donald. The servicdress tunic is complete with regimental pattern flat buttons and Capt rank stars against blue backing cloth. To the left breast full size Army Pilots Wings and medal ribbons of the 1939/45 Star, France & Germany Star, War Medal, with MID Oak Leaf. The lining with tailor's label with ink name and date 2/ 40 (February 1940). Good clean condition. Captain D.A. Donald was promoted Acting Captain 8th November 1942. He was MID for North West Europe on two occasions 9/8/45 & 4/4/46.

Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Officer's Full Dress Attributed uniform. A rare mid 19th Century attributed Full Dress uniform, the tunic of blue melton cloth, with gold bullion lace and cord decoration to the cuff. Gold bullion gimp cords are repeated to the seventeen ornate loops which decorate each breast, these are tailored with plain gilt dome buttons. The back of the tunic has further lace and cord. The interior with silk lining and old ink label "Cornet Baker"... Overalls of matching material, are decorated with gold bullion cord and lace of Regimental pattern. The bullion remains fresh. The jacket with some moth damage to the arms, the overalls with some moth damage to inside legs. (2 items) The rank of Cornet of the British Army was abolished in 1871 with the rank of Sub Lieutenant and later Second Lieutenant. Pre this period one Officer by the name of Baker appears. Captain Granville Edwin Lloyd Baker who was commissioned Cornet on the 22nd March 1861, Lieutenant 25th August 1865 and Captain 1876. He resigned his commission in 1878. He resided at Hardwicke Court Gloucestershire and in 1898 was appointed High Sheriff. He died in 1924.

German Third Reich Army Officer's Dagger by unusual maker Rudolf Betel, Solingen-Merscheid. A fine scarce example with amber celluloid grip. Double edged blade bearing maker's RBIS star in oval logo. Plated crossguard with central eagle and swastika. Oak leaf decorated pommel. Housed in its stippled nickel plated scabbard with two loose hanging rings. VGC Army (Heer) Officer's dagger was designed by Paul Casburg in 1935.

German Third Reich Army Pioneer NCO's cap and tunic Cap, a fine field grey example with black piping to the crown welt and both sides of the dark green cap band. Mounted with aluminium Army Eagle and swastika and national cockade with oak leaves. Complete with leather chinstrap supported by plain black buttons. Pressed black fibre peak and complete with leather sweatband. Retains faint Wurzburg tailor's celluloid diamond. Minor service wear and tiny traces of moth. Superb shape. VGC ... Tunic, a fine Officer quality Oberfeldwebel's four pocket example, lower pockets slanted; turnback cuffs. Aluminium black backed litzen to collar which bears aluminium lace around the top edge, aluminium lace surrounding the black piped shoulder strap that each bear pebbled button with II, two rank stars with 3 in between. Black piped front seam, silvered BeVo eagle and swastika to breast, the other side retaining ribbons for two Armed Forces awards with gilt and silvered eagle emblem. One stitched loop AF. Above the breast eagle, sweeping from shoulder strap to font seam, an aluminium woven Marksmanship lanyard. VGC

German Third Reich SS / Army WW2 Tank Assault breast badge for 25 Engagements by Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen. A fine rare die-cast example. Approaching panzer secured with two open rivets within an oval oakleaf wreath surmounted by eagle and swastika with applied "25" tablet to base. Reverse with vertical needle pin and maker's GB logo. Slight service wear. VGC Basic badge instituted 20th December 1939; 22nd June 1943 numbered version introduced.

German Third Reich Army Officer's Sword. A fine example with plated single edged plain fullered 73 cm slightly curved blade bearing cutler's logo to the forte only just visible under langet. The gilded aluminium hilt with single bar guard embossed with floral decoration German Army eagle and swastika with spread wings to langet. The black grip with twist wire binding is surmounted by ornamented combined backstrap and lion head pommel with red glass eyes. Housed in original black painted steel scabbard. VGC
