A group of daywear and accessories, 1930s-40s, approx 18 ensembles, including Women's Land Army exercise outfit, labelled R.E.H & Co. Ltd Manchester; a CC41 brown needlecord jacket, labelled; a farmer's smock; Hebe Sports striped suit, labelled; six pairs of shoes, assorted CC41 accessories; two clothing ration books 1947-8; and others, various sizes (qty) CONDITION REPORT: · Clothing is good condition overall, items are wearable and mostly quite fresh in appearance, with occasional imperfections commensurate with age. · Brown/checked shorts - soiling to inner crotch · Brown Land Army exercise shorts - hole to left side · Needlecord coat - large hole in lining, exterior is good · 'Philpots' tweed jacket - lining shredded at underarms, moth hole to lower front approx. 2x1cm · Hebe Sports suit - perspiration stains at underarms to lining, not visible to exterior. Skirt has scattering of darned moth holes near waistband otherwise good. · Dress with beaded bows - faded/discoloured across shoulders · Brown 'Peter Robinson' dress - discolouration in several places · Unlabelled brown wool jacket - brown stains to lining, exterior good · Costmoor green tweed jacket - tears to lining, brown discolouration in places, couple of moth holes, fraying at cuffs · Accessories all show signs of use and wear. Green beret has bleach marks to top. Ration books are used.

A brass bound leather covered oak gun case, for a DB gun with 30” barrels, the lid with tooled panels and circular brass escutcheon, with trade label of Charles Boswell, internal compartments, carrying handle, and leather securing straps. Generally GC (worn, the lock AF); also a canvas covered case for a DB gun with up to 30½” barrels, with trade label of Army & Navy CSL. QGC (worn overall, handle and straps missing) (2)
An 1853 pattern cavalry trooper’s sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 33½” (the tip rounded) with inspector’s stamp and Indian army broad arrow with I on backstrap, steel hilt with broad knucklebow, sideloop and 2 sidebars, chequered composition grips, various stamps on back of guard incorporating V,Y, AA, 8/98 etc, in later pattern steel scabbard with opposing rings, hilt and scabbard with contemporary black painted finish overall, GC (minor wear to blade with dark rust patina, blade does not fully enter scabbard).
A very good WWI army surgeon’s field service case of instruments, the crimson velvet lined case with lift out tray, containing a range of instruments including saws, scalpels, knives, tweezers, callipers, probes, scissors, a tourniquet, dental probes, syringe, etc, in their brass mounted mahogany case with brass escutcheon to lid marked “Instruments Operation” with broad arrow, in its khaki painted tin carrying case with Royal Arms logo of Arnold & Sons, London on lid, with leather handle and shoulder straps. A small archive of material of late WWI RAF interest, relating to Flight Cadet Sidney Venables, from August to November 1918, comprising approx 50 sepia photographs of individual cadets and groups, aircraft crashes, individual aircraft including Avro 504, RE8, DH4 and DH9, Sopwith Pup, BE2, Handley Page Bomber, Armstrong Whitworth and Bristol Monoplane, 2 large aerial views of Old Sarum airfield, etc, all glued into a later album, many identified; also “Air Board Technical Notes” on “Rigging” and another similar on “Engines”; “Pilot’s Flying Log Book” (Army Book 425), with entries from August to November 1918 (first solo flight 14/11/18); a Civil Aviation Log Book with training flights from July 1st 1919 to first solo flight on August 30th; and a “Royal Air Force Transfer Card”, listing postings from April to November 1918 and various courses completed (Ground Tests, Navigator and Gunnery). A Belgian 14 bore percussion holster pistol made by Beuret Freres for the Swiss army, 14½” overall, barrel 8”, with short octagonal section at the breech stamped with the Swiss shield, maker’s initials, and serial number “210”; flat lock stamped “Beuret Freres A Liege”; figured pale walnut halfstock having plain brass mounts including fore end cap with no provision for ramrod, and domed butt cap with lanyard ring, all mounts stamped with small crowned “BF”. Good Working Order and Condition (small chip to stock below the lock). Plate
A post 1902 officers blue cloth ball topped helmet of the Army Service Corps, gilt peak binding, cloth backed chinchain and ear rosettes (fastened), top mount and ball top (some wear), HP with WM centre on velvet, leather and silk (torn) lining; together with Lieutenant’s blue frock coat, shoulder straps with rank stars, gilt collar badges and buttonss (collar lining torn out). A Third Reich army officer’s presentation dagger by Clemen & Jung, Solingen, the blade etched on one side with foliate panel and “Fur langjahrige Dienste der Gerneralstab”, and on the other side a similar foliate panel with eagle and swastika, with orange grip and plated grey metal mounts, in its sheath with hanging straps. Basically GC (some deep corrosion to hilt mounts, sheath dented, plating peeling).
“Instructions on Bombing, Part 1, British and German Bombs”, and Part II “Training and Employment of Bombers”, HMSO November and December 1917, nicely bound in one, in hard covers with gilt title to the spine; “Regiments at a Glance” by Dorling 1917, “Rank at a Glance in the Army & Navy” and “Badges and their Meaning”, both c 1918, nicely bound in one uniformly with the previous item; “Naval Recognition Book, German Ships”, and companion volume on “British Ships”, both by Fred T Jane, c 1916, with original hard covers. A small liquid filled vertically mounted compass, combined with a sight, and with small plate marked “A C U S Army Type B16” etc, reputedly from a Mustang fighter aircraft; a chrome plated desk cigarette lighter in the form of a futuristic aircraft, on bakelite base; and a chrome plated bonnet mascot from a large American car, in the form of a reclining female figure resting on a pair of streamlined wings (the plating bubbled). A Third Reich M35 Afrikakorps double decal steel helmet, the original smooth grey/green finish overpainted with matt desert camouflage avoiding the army and tricolour decals, the inside of the brim stamped with maker’s initials and size “NS64” (Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke, Schwerte), production number “D31”, and painted with owner’s name “Geilich”, with leather lining and chinstrap. An ERII officer’s sword of the R Army Service Corps, almost straight fullered blade 33½”, by Wilkinson, no 95464 on backstrap, etched with crowned ERII cypher and wreath on both sides in scrolled Union wreath panels, plated hilt with sideloop and 2 sidebars to knucklebow, diced pommel and backstrap, wirebound grip, with leather knot, in its leather FS scabbard. VGC, and evidently seldom used. Plate 14

Two Third Reich period cigarette picture albums: “Die Deutsche Wehrmacht”, 1936, containing 270 coloured cards, the introduction with charts of Army, Navy and Luftwaffe rank badges and insignia, and “Die Reichswehr”, 1933, containing 280 coloured cards (some rather worn). GC; also another album published by “Fritz Homann A-G, Margarine Werke”, for 200 cards showing Germany’s technical achievements. Worn and incomplete. (3)
A group of 6 Third Reich medals: War Merit Cross 2nd class with swords, 1912 bronze medal “Verdienst um den Staat”, 12 year Army long service medal, 4 year Army long service medal, Faithful service decoration 1st class, and medal for 1st October 1938, mounted on bar as worn. GC; together with documents relating to the recipient, including Kraftfahrzeugschein, Stammbuch and Tatigfeitsliste.
A good 6 shot .44” Rogers & Spencer single action Army percussion revolver, number 2046 on all parts, barrel strap deeply stamped “Rogers & Spencer Utica NY”, with inspector’s initial “B” on all parts, flared walnut grips stamped on the left side with inspector’s initials “RPB” in rectangle (R.P. Barry, 1860-65). Good Working Order and Crisp Condition, the barrel and frame retaining some original blued finish overall. Plate
