General Sir Richard Nugent O'Connor DSO signed Escape for Libya RAF Escaping Society cover. He fought in both War. He was the field commander for Operation Compass, in which his forces destroyed a much larger Italian army. In 1944 he commanded VIII Corps in the Battle of Normandy and later during Operation Market Garden. In 1945 he was General Officer in Command of the Eastern Command in India and then, in the closing days of British rule in the subcontinent, he headed Northern Command. He was also mentioned in dispatches nine times for actions in the First World War, once in Palestine in 1939 and three times in the Second World War. Good Condition. An Army and Navy Cooperative Society Limited box containing a quantity of various twelve gauge cartridges, glass bottle and various tot cups and a bag containing five various shot gun hammer actions, together with a canvas covered motor case (THIS LOT REQUIRES A CURRENT SHOTGUN LICENCE) CONDITION REPORTS The shotgun actions are all in various states of repair. Unsure if working. There is rusting and pitting throughout. Three are only half an action. See images. Box has holes to the top and various screws. Wear to the varnish and some discolouration and staining. Heavy scratching throughout. Some chips especially to the edges. Green felting is worn and missing in various places. There is some verdigris to the metalwork. Plastic tot cups are scuffed, etc. The glass bottle - cap is dented, scuffed and faded throughout. The glass is scratched and has signs of mould / clouding to it. Contains two boxes of 25 twelve gauge Eley cartridges and 24 unboxed examples. Canvas covered motor case has wear to the whole especially to the corners where the leather is coming off. It is dirty and bears the remains of an old label to the exterior. No key. The green baize to the interior is tired and has various holes and is dirty. The leather straps are possible replacements as they don't match. Has wear to include scuffing and marks and cracking conducive with age and use. See images for further details.

Sober as Judges used to be. However, all the more reason for meeting a wild man. At least your reputation won't scare me off A bas all the hawthorndens. Hawthorn forsooth! Den forsooth!", the letter is signed "TE Shaw". Williamson was an army officer, writer and naturalist, winner of the Hawthornden Prize in 1928 for his novel "Tarka The Otter" around which he and Lawrence struck up a friendship. The letter is dated 22/2/29.
