Her father was a doctor who for leisure studied orchids (see lot 222), a passion that has continued through the generations to the family today. Her mother met Cedric Morris at a party in London, but because of her mother's ill health, Elizabeth spent much of her time with her grandparents, who were Plymouth Brethren. She studied domestic science and for a time was a cook at Eton College, whilst also attending classes at Oxford Art School. Elizabeth was also a Land Army girl in the war and arrived at Benton End in 1946, where the contrast to her grandparents' home could not have been greater. She, like her new husband, Tom, painted for the rest of her life.*Artist's Resale Right may apply to this lot.
