A scarce Royal Yugoslavian (Serbian) Army Officers dagger M1939, complete with its leather scabbard displaying the Royal Yugoslavian eagle and repeated on the ricasso, blade 9.5", textured blacked-metal scabbard with brass mounts. These were worn in the short war against Germany from 1939 until defeat in 1941 when they were then reissued to the Croatia Officers with the symbols replaced with Croatian images.
A Leica 1 Model A, circa 1925 Please note this is a Leica model I circa 1930 not 1925 as previously catalogued. Black enamelled finish has been worn away from most of the baseplate and around the edges of the top plate. All exposed metalwork is oxidised and worn. Eyepiece has lost its glass internals but for the back glass. A blob of near matching black enamel has been placed over the number and green foil stuck below it (and also at one end). Spools and shutter working. A few notes on the Leicas' history from the vendor.WW1, my grandfather, graduated from Osbourne house ( pre Dartmouth naval collage ) in 1915 took command of a H Class submarine - the squadron was based Great Yarmouth. The photo showing Jolly Roger is him returning after sinking the heavy cruiser ' Deutschland, the other the submarine itself. Few months later, he himself was attached by U Boat; ensuing zig zag, his boat was hit: there were only 3 survivors - my grandfather was one. The U Boat surfaced, picked up the survivors. At that time, German army guarded POWs' treated airmen and submariners badly. The U Boat commander decided to keep my grandfather in ' close quarters ' at the Wilmshaven naval base.My grandfather & the German commander became friends. Grandfather remained here for rest of war - the Admiralty were not told, my grandmother received telegram advising ' lost in action,' ( I have the telegram ) Some 11 months later she received a letter via red cross advising he was alive and well....The German commander was on of the Neuirecher wine family.Post WW1 the two families retained contact: this included visits of the children of both families. About 1935 / 36 Frau Neuirecher gave my father the Leica. He and his brother, both graduated from Dartmouth - also becoming submariners. My father kept the camera with him throughout, to include his time on Dorchester in the Bismark action: two of his paintings of the sinking are at Imperial war museum. He continued to S Boats and XCraft - for action against Tirpitz & Bergen. Somewhere I have photos taken by the Leica of these times.Post war, my father & his brothers took control of German windfall yachts, bringing them over to Portsmouth. One was Marabu, Goring's yacht. They camaigned Marabu to include fitting a mizen mast. One photo is of Marubu tuning the mizen. My uncle is at the helm wearing white submariners pullover & cap. The photo was taken by my father using the Leica. The other photos were also taken with the Leica of various family activities. In 1956 my uncle sailed to Bemuda in Marabu for the first post war Onion Patch sailing series versus US Navy. He borrowed the Leica - took reels of film - including a severe storm under bare poles: problem - he forgot to pull the lens out to activate...I can remember my father using the Leica - I was never allowed to go near it: it stayed in a drawer following his death in 1993.I have never used it as by then the SLR was the mode.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. First edition [and only?] of a report recounting the military campaign of the Shah of Persia, Thamas Kouli Khan (1688-1747), against the Mughal Empire of South Asia. The pamphlet includes not only a translation of the original Persian, written in Delhi by Voulton in 1739, but also other documents and a description of the Mughal treasure (Map of the Spoils) captured in the expedition (p. 16/17), including the imperial throne studded with diamonds. Little is known about the author, apart from having deserted the French army in Pondicherry (India) to enlist in the Persian forces. Last leaf with minor imperfections. Recent binding, full sheepskin. Leaflet not registered in the consulted bibliographies. Laurence Lockhart, “De Voulton’s noticia”, in Bulletin of the School of Oriental Studies, University of London 4:2 (1926), pp. 223-45. Apparently only two copies are known in Portugal, one in the National Library, the other in the BGUC.
SKETCHES of Portuguese life, manners, costume, and character / by A. P. D. G.- London: Geo. B. Whittaker, 1826.- XXV, [3], 364 p.: il.; 23 cm.- E., Rare title in the foreign bibliography on Portugal, whose author, who signs only with his initials, remains to this day unidentified. It is known only that he served in the army in Lisbon and accompanied the royal family in their retreat to Brazil. The 20 aquatints (plus an engraving with musical notation of a modinha), hand-coloured, that illustrate the edition, mainly represent customs and scenes of daily life in Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro and present a caricatural and satirical feature. Complete copy, according to the “directions to the binder”, including the front cover sheet (often missing), untrimmed, slightly handled, with some browning and occasional light stains; the colour of the prints caused some offset on the opposite page. Good binding, full red shagreen, from the 19th/20th century, with Greek meander border on the covers, smooth spine decorated in gold, simple rolls on the squares and thickness of the folders. Keeps the original endpapoers on marbled paper. Duarte de Sousa, 3. Tooley, 453. Foulché-Delbosc, 255.
XXXXVIII. [1748].- [40], 444 [i. é 442] p., 1 tabela desdobr.: 1 retrato, XVIII [i. é 20] gravuras desdobr.; 20 cm.- E., José Fernandes Alpoim (1700-1765) was born in Viana do Castelo and in 1738 he traveled to Brazil where he became famous as an architect and military engineer, having reached the rank of brigadier. In Rio de Janeiro he taught in artillery and fortification courses for which he wrote two treatises: “Exame de Artilheiros” (Lisbon, 1744) and the present “Exame de Bombeiros”. The edition is illustrated with a portrait of Gomes Freire de Andrade (1685-1763), governor of Rio, to whom the work is dedicated, engraved by Olivarius Cor (Ernesto Soares, História, p. 180 and nº 500), an allegorical vignette at the beginning of the dedication and 20 engravings (19 leaflets), numbered from I to XVIII (from engravings II and XI there are two different proofs) by José Francisco Chaves (Ernesto Soares, História, p. 171). Particularly enigmatic is Figure XVII that presents the subscription: José Franc. Chaves fecit — Rio 1749. This last indication has led some historians and bibliographers to support the hypothesis that the engraving (and even the edition) may have been opened in Rio de Janeiro, a controversial claim that remains unproven to this day. The pagination has an error: da p. 372 moves to p. 375, without any gaps in the text or in the section. Copy a little trimmed, but clean, keeping all engravings fresh and well folded. Contemporary binding, full sheepskin, slightly worn, with traces of wormholes (without affecting the core), retaining the original endpapers, red label and four raised bands on the spine. Inocêncio, IV, p. 326. Borba de Moraes (1983), p. 25/26 (These two famous and rare works by Alpoym constitute a veritable “bibliographic puzzle”). Army Library, 324.

An important collection of texts published in Louvain shortly after the siege of this city, in which the author was involved, having been taken prisoner by the French army. The edition, without pagination, includes some of the texts that would lead the humanist to be arrested by the Inquisition in 1571. Ownership manuscript on the title page: “Letellier conseiller au grand conseil du roy”. This is most likely Michel Le Tellier (1603-1685) who was successively adviser to the Grand Conseil, procurator of the king in Châtelet (Paris), maître de requettes, intendant in Piedmont, secretary of state for war and chancellor-general of Louis XIV (1677). Complete copy (possibly missing the last blank page), with some old handwritten annotations (by Le Tellier?), but in general clean and with good margins. 1993 Mini Moke Transmission: manualMileage:12947With the laudable intention of providing a lightweight scout vehicle for the British Army, BMC inadvertently created one of the swinging sixties most iconic vehicles. Who can forget those fringed and tasselled Mini Mokes driving around `The Village' carrying out duties such as taxi, ambulance, hearse, bomb-disposal vehicle and election campaign bus during episodes of The Prisoner. Lack of ground clearance made it ineffective as a military tool; yet the civilian version carved itself a niche as a cult mass-produced `beach buggy' for nations with hotter climes than Britain. Running gear was shared with the basic Mini, and initial production was at Cowley, before moving to Longbridge. Between 1964 and 1968, 14,500 Mokes were built in the UK, but only 10% stayed in Britain. 26,000 were made in Australia between 1966 and 1981. A further 10000 were built in Portugal from 1980 to 1993 when production ended. Portuguese production allowed the Moke to rationalise components with the then current Mini Mk. IV and included the fitment of disc brakes and 12 wheels. In a final ironic twist, Rover Group, as BMC had by then become, sold the Moke business to Cagiva for production in Italy, but the motorbike maker only built around 1,500 between 1990 and 1993.This lovely car offered here was one of the final Mini Mokes built. Purchased by a private collector, from Monaco in 2013 and brought to the UK. In his ownership it has received a complete repaint in the original colour white, the bespoke white leather upholstery with red piping and matching red seatbelts have been replaced, whilst being kept running and useable. The Moke is nicely equipped with a removable roll bar and weather gear, allowing for year-round use. This Mini Moke is supplied with the Monégasque registration document and the NOVA number to allow registration in the UK. Ideal for a summer residence or an eye-catching addition to any collection, this desirable Mini Moke remains one of the most fun ways to see and be seen, either here or on the Mediterranean coast.
