Wittman (William). Travels in Turkey, Asia-Minor, Syria, and Across the Desert into Egypt, During the Years 1799, 1800, and 1801, in Company with the Turkish Army, and the British Military Mission. To Which are Annexed, Observations on the Plague, and on the Diseases Prevalent in Turkey, and a Metrological Journal, 1st ed., 1803, double-page engraved frontispiece (two vertical folds), single-page hand-coloured engraved plan, folding engraved map, twenty-one engraved plates, of which sixteen hand-coloured aquatinted plates of costume, scattered light spotting, contemporary calf, rebacked retaining original spine, a little rubbed, 4to. ÒWittman was a member of the British military mission which joined the Turkish forces at Constantinople in 1799 and travelled overland to Egypt to take part in the campaign against the French. The costume plates, unsigned, are mostly of soldiers and military functionaries. Several of these plates were later used by the publisher McLean in his Military Costume of TurkeyÓ. [Blandy, Mary]. Miss Mary Blandy’s own Account of the Affair between Her and Mr. Cranstoun, from the Commencement of their Acquaintance; in the Year 1746. To the Death of her Father, in August 1751, with all the Circumstances leading to that unhappy Event...., together with an exact Relation of her Behaviour, whilst under sentence; and a Copy of the Declaration signed by herself, in the Presence of two Clergymen, two Days before her Execution, Published at her dying Request, 1752, ownership signature to fore-edge margin of title, inner margin of leaf A2 strengthened, modern half calf, 8vo, together with Roughead (William), Trial of Mary Blandy, pub. William Hodge & Co., 1914, b & w port. frontis. and plts., occ. scattered spotting, t.e.g., orig. cloth gilt, 8vo. Mary Blandy (1720-April 6, 1752 in Oxford) poisoned her father, Francis Blandy, with arsenic in 1751. She claimed she thought the arsenic was a love potion that would make her father approve of her relationship with William Henry Cranstoun, an army officer and son of a Scottish nobleman. On Easter Monday 1752, she was hanged outside Oxford Castle prison for the crime of parricide. Her case attracted a great deal of attention from the press. Many pamphlets claiming to be the Ògenuine accountÓ or the Ògenuine lettersÓ of Mary Blandy were published in the months following her execution. (2)

Lipperheide Qb19. The first French edition of De Gheyn’s famous drill manual, known in English as the Exercises of Arms. The work is based on the drill developed at the end of the 16th century by Count Johann II of Nassau-Siegen (1551-1623) and introduced in the Dutch Army by his cousin Maurits, Prince of Orange (1567-1625). Dynamo Tbilisi v West Bromwich Albion programme 1957, folded single-sheet. West Bromwich Albion toured the Soviet Union in 1957 and played 3 games, beating both Dynamo Tbilisi in Georgia and the Soviet Army Side (CSKA) in Moscow. The third game against F. C. Zenit in Leningrad was a draw. They became the first British professional team to win a game in the Soviet Union.
An unusual collection of programme relating to the playing days of Corporal A. Jackson of R.A.C. Bovington dating between 1948 and 1950, including programmes for the 1947-48 Army Football Association Cup semi-final, final and replay; other Army Cup semi-final and final programmes and other games concerning a team from Bovington, including the 1949 Dorset County F.A. Cup final v Bridport and matches played at Poole Town, Portland United & Weymouth; together with programmes for A. Jackson’s appearances for Bournemouth Gas Works, and several appearance for the Dorset County F.A. in the Southern Counties Amateur Championship including a match played at Bristol City 24.1.48, some duplication; together with player’s passes and tickets including a wartime international between Poland & Great Britain played in Baghdad 24.1.1943, Army Cup finals & Semi-finals and a for Redhill FC. Tragically, during the 1948 Army Cup final played at the Command Central Ground in Aldershot, two players were killed by lightning and many other players and spectators left injured. The match was duly abandoned and the two teams were declared joint-winners. A medals collection relating to the amateur football career of Corporal A. Jackson is offered elsewhere in the auction as lot 10.
