S.W.Fores No. 10, for Self, Fearnought & Hardblow, 1 Penny, 4 June 1818, promising to pay ‘the Emperor Napoleon or Bearer, one penny, when British Valour shall have been wholly subsided & when the French Army shall have become masters of the British Islands’, signed by George Lather’em and Bob Trimmer, with a vignette showing a map of the United Kingdom, labelled ‘Britannia, The Pride of the Sea, I’faith they are tight little Islands’, good extremely fine £100-£150 --- Another patriotic note, promising to pay Napoleon if he successfully invades. Originally printed at least a decade earlier, by 1818 it was a doubly safe bet, as Napoleon had been firmly defeated in 1815.
S.W.Fores No. 12, for Self, Knapsack & Firelock, 2 Pence, 18 March 1819, promising to pay ‘Duke, Clark’s, Farquhar, or Bearer, when Boys, by purchase, shall no longer supersede the Veteran Subaltern, and when hard & meritorious service shall be the only recommendation to Military Promotion throughout the British Army’, signed by Hector Broadsword and Ron-don-don, with a vignette showing a petticoat above a crown, and labelled ‘Triumphalis Ruina’, and ‘Long Live the Petticoat; Its influence is universal’, extremely fine £100-£150 --- This note is an entirely justified protest against the long-standing practice of purchasing an officers commission in the army. Sons of wealthy families were often put in charge of far more senior professional soldiers, greatly to the detriment of the men they commanded and the army in general. The practice was not entirely banned until 1871!

1976 Moto Guzzi Nuovo FalconeMake: Moto Guzzi Model: Nuovo Falcone Year: 1976Mileage: 4300VIN: 75FEConfiguration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: OBU836PTransmission: Contact AuctioneerThe Khaki Green livery of this 1976 Moto Guzzi betrays its military origins; it was an ex-Italian Army bike that was imported into the UK and purchased by the vendor from in Made In Italy Motorcycles in October 2018, after having been registered here in March 2018. Just one previous registered keeper is recorded since its arrival in the UK. The vendor tells us that it has always been garaged. The odometer shows 4317 miles and the last MoT expired in February 2019, although as an historic bike, the Moto Guzzi no longer requires annual testing. The history file includes the V5C, UK sales bill, plus invoices from the bike's UK and Italian lives and the import papers. The original owner's handbook is present - albeit in Italian - as are two workshop manuals, one in Italian and one in English. Spare keys also come with the Moto Guzzi.
