A large British Army sign for the HQ 47 Infantry Brigade, painted to both sides, constructed of aluminium with a plywood core and softwood exterior, painted with inscription 'HQ 47 Infantry Brigade', 123cm wide x 125.5cm high (at fault)Although we do not know the origins of this sign, it was presumably designed to be suspended from posts (see the additional image uploaded online for an example). Dating this sign precisely is also difficult. The 47 Infantry Brigade were part of the 16th (Irish) Division and served in Belgium and France from 1915-18. During the Second World War, it was redesignated as the 47th (London) Infantry Division in 1940 before being further redesignated as the 47th Infantry (Reserve) Division in 1944, in which capacity it remained through the rest of the war. Equally, this sign could be later and relate to the Territorial Unit. Records show that HQ 47th Infantry Brigade (TA) had their drill hall at the Duke of York's HQ, King's Road, Chelsea in 1947 and was attached to the 44th Home Counties Infantry Division.
