Combat Worn WW2 German Army Other Ranks M-43 Pattern Field Cap, good worn example of the peaked field cap having one piece bevo eagle and cockade. Two button front. The cloth lining to the interior shows heavy service wear and some tears. Exterior of the cap is dirty and worn. A cap which oozes character.
American 23rd HQ Special Troops “Ghost Army” Patch, fine embroidered example, appears to be uniform removed. 23rd HQ Special Troops were a 1,100 man unit who was given a unique mission within the Allied Army to impersonate other Allied Army units to deceive the enemy. From a few months after D-Day, when they landed in France, until the end of the war, they put on a "traveling road show" utilizing inflatable tanks, sound trucks, fake radio transmissions, scripts and pretence. They staged more than 20 battlefield deceptions, often operating very close to the front lines.

Post 1911 Royal Irish Fusiliers Officers Full Dress Tunic Attributed to Captain F W E Johnson, fine scarlet cloth with black collar and cuffs. The collar mounted with silvered officers coronet collar badges and gilt braid tress decorated with shamrocks. Thick lace and braid to the cuffs. Knotted officers patter shoulder boards with regimental buttons. Front of the tunic with a single regimental tunic button and plain brass lower button. Quilted officers lining to the interior which has inked name “Capt F W E Johnson”. Generally good condition. F W E Johnson appears in the army lists as follows, 2nd Lieutenant 18/4/1900, Lieutenant 1901, Captain 1/2/1910, Temporary Major August 1914, Lt Colonel January 1925 and retired 1929.

WW2 German Army Officers Combat Tunic, good example of a four pocket officers combat tunic with bullion wire embroidered officers breast eagle. Dark green collar having officers Panzer Grenadier collar patches fitted. The tunic is fitted with slip-on officers shoulder boards for a General Staff officer, so would indicate these are replacements. Tunic is fitted with the original buttons to the front, pockets and shoulders. Officers quality lining to the interior with tailors label to the collar. Interior pocket with label having inked name of the original owner, although not clear and 1942 date. Generally a good example of an officers combat tunic.

Boer War & WW1 Gallipoli Campaign Medal Group of Four Army Chaplains Department, late Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts, group consists of Queens South Africa medal with three clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal, “274 PTE K M GRANT KITCH F S”, 1914-15 star “REV K M GRANT ACD”, British War and Victory medals “REV K M GRANT”. Accompanied by miniature Queens South Africa medal, photographs of Grant in uniform and ones taken at Gallipoli in 1915, paperwork relating to WW1 and pre-WW1 period. Kenneth Meeres Grant was from Bletchenden, Headcorn, Kent. He qualified as a second mate of a ship after serving his apprenticeship on the Lang & Fulton ship “Australia”. He left this company to join up with the Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts for the Boer War in South Africa. During WW1 he was appointed Chaplain to the Forces 4th Class and served during the Gallipoli campaign.

WW2 German Army Generals Peaked Cap Belonging to General der Infanterie Otto Roettig Commander of 198th Infantry Division on the Eastern Front and Later Inspector General of Prisoners of War, fine quality peaked cap in doeskin material. Dark green central band which is bordered in gold bullion wire piping, the crown of the cap also piped in gold bullion wire. Centre of the cap is fitted with the original Army Generals pattern cap wreath and special Erel pattern ventilated cockade. Interior of the cap has leather sweatband which is stamped with Erel details. Fine quality lining to the interior which has Erel marked celluloid diamond that contains printed name label, “Roettig General der Infanterie”. Some stitching faults to the sweatband and general expected service wear to the interior, top of the cap with some areas of moth tracking, but overall a good example of an attributed Generals peaked cap. Accompanying the cap is a grouping of paperwork and insignia belonging to Private Henry Tallentire Royal Scots, 51st Highland Division. General der Infanterie Otto Roettig was born in Muhlhausen, Thuringia on 22nd July 1887. He enlisted in the Imperial German army on the 2nd October 1905 as a Fahnenjunker Leutnant in the 1.Oberrheinisches Infanterie Regiment Nr 97. He served with this regiment during WW1 until being transferred in January 1918 to General Staff of the 105th Infantry Division. After WW1 he joined the German Police service in Berlin. On 1st October 1935 he rejoined the German Army with the rank of Oberst. On 1st June 1939 he was promoted to Generalmajor and in November of that year became Commandant of Posen. The 10th January 1940 until 10th April 1942, he was the commander of the 198th Infantry Division. The division was heavily involved in the invasion of Denmark, later occupying Copenhagen. The division was held in reserve before being involved in the final stages of the invasion of France, seeing some action during operation “Tiger”. In April 1941, the division moved to the Eastern Front and was stationed in Romania as part of the 11th Army. On 1st June 1941, he was again promoted to Generalleutnant. The division finally took part in the fighting on the Eastern Front as part of Army Group South, taking part in the battles of Dnepropetrovsk, Rostov and along the Mius River. Mid 1942 he was pulled out of the front lines and sent back to the Western Front to take up administration duties. On 1st July 1943 he was appointed as Armed Forces Inspector General of Prisoner of War camps. 1st August 1943, he received his final promotion, General der Infanterie. On 4th December 1944 he was made Commander of Special Staff I of the Army High Command. Otto Roettig was the holder of 2nd class Iron Cross, 1st class Iron Cross, Bar to the Iron Cross 1st & 2nd class, German Cross in Gold and Romanian Military Order of Michael the Brave III class. Otto Roettig was captured by the British on 28th May 1945 and was held in captivity until 14th July 1947. He was mostly held in the UK at LDC (London District Cage) and the special prison camp set up for high ranking officers and Generals at Island Farm, on the outskirts of Bridgend, Wales, known as camp 198 and later Special Camp XI. During his time in captivity, Roettig was under suspicion of being involved in the murder of British prisoners who made escape attempts but were captured and executed, he was cleared of this, with references stating he was only involved in putting in precautions to stop prisoners escaping.collected by Private Henry Tallentire Royal Scots, 51st Highland Division, serving as part of 2221 Prisoner of War Company, the items were taken as souvenirs and given to the current vendor when she was a child

WW2 German Army M-43 Pattern Field Cap, good condition example of the peaked M-43 pattern field cap which is complete with its original one piece bevo eagle and cockade insignia. Two button front. Cloth lining to the interior with issue stamps. Cap shows some service wear and discolouration to the cloth when the side section is pulled down.

WW2 & Korea Campaign Medal Group of Eight Royal Signals, Army Air Corps and Special Air Service (S.A.S), group consists of 1939-45 star, Africa star with 1st Army bar, Italy star, France and Germany star, Defence medal, 1939-45 War medal, Queens Korea medal “22242723 SGT L R MORGAN R.SIGS” and UN Korea medal. Medals are mounted for wear. Accompanied by his Regular Army Certificate of Service when he re-enlisted in the Royal Signals in 1948, the back of this book states previous service with the Army Air Corps from 1st April 1944 until 22nd November 1945. Also with the grouping is a photograph showing Staff Sergeant Morgan in full uniform wearing his medals with Special Air Service parachute qualification jump wings on his breast indicating previous service with the Special Air Service. Small correction to the surname on the Korea medal but otherwise all remain in good condition.

WW2 British Army Air Corps Maroon Beret, fine quality, possibly privately tailored maroon beret as issued to the British airborne troops. Beret fitted with other ranks pattern cap badge with lug fittings and brass back plate. Beret has black ribbed band and the interior lining is of a quilted cloth which is normally associated with headdress privately purchased by officers. Spiral pattern to the top of the beret. The beret shows expected service wear. No dates or markings visible.

Victorian 21st Hussars Officers Sabretache Attributed to Sir Hugh Bateman Protheroe Smith OBE, being a French grey cloth faced example with gilt lace border having white central stripe, the centre embroidered with crowned VR cypher and laurel wreath surrounding a circle with “21/H” to the centre. Three brass D ring fittings to the top. Reverse of blue leather backing and complete with the pouch having Hawkes & Co paper label. The sabretache remains in excellent overall condition with the bullion remaining bright. Attached to the D rings is a label giving attribution and stating that the item was purchased at the sale of his home at Pentowan, Gyllyngvas, Falmouth Bay. This pattern of sabretache was only worn for a very short time as the regiment became 21st Lancers after 1897. Sir Hugh Bateman Protheroe Smith was from Cornwall, he was commissioned in The Dorsetshire Regiment in 1895 and transferred to the 21st Hussars, later Lancers in 1897. In 1898 he served with the regiment in the Sudan, charging in the famous action at the Battle of Omdurman. He served in South Africa from 1899-1900, receiving the Queens South Africa medal with five clasps. He later served in Somaliland 1903-04, before being appointed Commanding Officer, Military Mounted Police, Egypt in 1905 where he remained until retiring from the army in 1909. After leaving the army, he returned to Cornwall and he became Chief Constable for which he received a Knighthood in 1928.
WW2 British Combat Helmet with Double Camouflaged Net, interesting example of a British army combat helmet which has fitted to the exterior two camouflage nets, one in desert sand and the other in green. The interior of the helmet retains its original 1938 dated liner system and webbing chinstrap.
