An exceptional 19th Century Elkington & Company oval shield depicting biblical scenes from Genesis, the central circular panel with relief embossed scenes of the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve and the Archangel Gabriel. The borders of Celtic style scrolls between raised studs. The outer edges with signs from the Zodiac, angels, serpents and scrolling foliage, the central circular panel flanked by two panels, one depicting an army of angels marching to war, possibly depicting the Day of Judgment, the other depicting angels being cast out of heaven. Between the panels is the Archangel Michael defeating Satan. The reverse with applied oval plaque "Department of Science and Art, Elkington", with raised Queens crown flanked by VR. The reverse with riveted brass brackets for mounting, 85cm high x 65cm wide

See illustration The 16th The Queen's Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army, first raised in 1759. It saw service for two centuries, before being amalgamated into the XVI/V Lancers in 1922.

World War II German military Luftwaffe B.Uhr pilot/ navigators watch circa 1940, ref fl23883. The black dial with luminous Arabic numberals and baton markers and still on its original strap. Vendor States : The watch was acquired from a 17 year old Luftwaffe pilot after his plane was shot down when attacking an arms dump in the Berlin area on the last day before the end of the war. It was owned since by my father in law who at the time was a senior army officer who was involved in making the peace in the Berlin area.
Greetings card signed by Alfred Munnings, the front depicting a hunt scene with the handwritten inside message reading: 'To you all at Valley Farm with the very best of good wishes for Christmas and the New Year'. The card itself is very worn with considerable staining but the writing inside is entirely legible. ALFRED MUNNINGS: Munnings was born in Mendham, Suffolk, in 1878. At fourteen he became apprenticed at a Norwich printers where he worked for the next six years, designed advertising posters whilst attending Norwich Art School in his spare time. When his apprenticeship ended he dedicated himself to painting full-time and in 1899 had two pictures shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Associated with the Newlyn School, Munnings frequently painted rural scenes and, encouraged by his wife to accept commisions from society figures, he became best known for equine painting, often depicting horses hunting or racing. Assessed as unfit to join the army in 1917, Munnings took a civilian position near Reading where he processed thousands of Canadian horses en route to France, he was later assigned to a horse remount depot on the Western Front, where his talents were employed as war artist to the Canadian Cavalry Brigade. After the war ended the Royal Academy held a Canadian War Records Exhibition which included forty-five of Munning's canvases. In 1944 the artist was elected President of the Royal Academy of Art and was awarded a knighthood, he died at Castle House in Dedham, Essex, in July 1959 which is now a Munnings museum.
