Oval brass maker’s plaque below lock with Hanovarian Royal Arms reads “I & W Lowndes No 18 Hay Market London Military and Army Equipage Warehouse”, 25½” x 15¼” x 14½” high. GC for age.

Two coal-scuttle shaped helmets made by Vickers in the UK: one example painted white for use by emergency services after decommissioning by the Defence Forces in 1940; the second recently painted dark green and fitted with an Oglaigh na h-Eireann helmet badge.

1866 Fenian Raid, Veteran Association Medal. A bronze and gilt eight-pointed star the central boss with a bust of Victoria before a maple leaf, surrounded by the inscription, 'Veterans' Association 1866', on red, white and blue ribbon with additional red ribbon inscribed, 'Committee 1899'. Between 1866 and 1871, the Fenian Brotherhood, based in the USA, launched raids on British army forts, customs posts and other targets in Canada, to bring pressure on Britain to withdraw from Ireland. There were five Fenian raids of note and all of them ended in failure.
M1870 Italian Vetterli 10mm rifle, as shipped to the Ulster Volunteer Force, and also used by the Irish Volunteers and Serial number 'CD6617'. Manufactured at the Torre Annunziata arsenal in 1881, converted to a four shot repeating rifle in 1890 at the Terni arsenal as indicated by a cartouche on the right side of the butt stock. The Vetterli rifle, named after its Swiss designer, Friedrich Vetterli, was adopted by the Swiss army in 1868 and later by the Italian military. Large numbers of these weapons made their way into Ireland in 1914, including 4,600 which were imported during the Larne gun-running by the Ulster Volunteer Force. Some were also acquired and used by the Irish Volunteers during the 1916 Rising and the War of Independence but few have survived today. Recovered from the roof of a thatched cottage in Co. Roscommon during renovations.

A Wilkinson 1822-Artillery pattern sword, lacking serial number signifying it was supplied under contract, with Mounted Escort regulation white sword knot. Of a type issued to the Mounted Escort. Purchased circa 1985 by an Army officer at a McKee Barracks 'barracks sale'. The Blue Hussars, officially called the Mounted Escort, was a ceremonial unit of the Irish Army established in 1932. It escorted the President of Ireland on state occasions, most famously to and from presidential inaugurations between 1938, when the first president took office, and 1948 when the Escort was disbanded. Canada General Service Medal with Fenian Raid 1866 clasp To 'Pte. C. Goudreau, 2nd. 1 Co. Three R.' Between 1866 and 1871, the Fenian Brotherhood, based in the USA, launched raids on British army forts, customs posts and other targets in Canada, to bring pressure on Britain to withdraw from Ireland. There were five Fenian raids of note and all of them ended in failure. The clasp on this medal was awarded to Canadian troops involved in the defence and defeat of the Fenians. The medal is to Private Goudreau, 2nd Infantry Company, Third Regiment.

(59.7 by 45.7cm) Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham, 2nd Baron Howard of Effingham (1536-1624) was an English statesman and Lord High Admiral under Elizabeth I and James I. He was commander of the English forces during the battles against the Spanish Armada and was chiefly responsible after Francis Drake for the victory that saved England from invasion by the Spanish Empire. Lieutenant General Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland FRS (1742–1817) was an officer in the British army and later a British peer. He participated in the Battles of Lexington and Concord and the Battle of Long Island during the American War of Independence, but resigned his command in 1777 due to disagreements with his superior, General William Howe.

1916 Rising, a bronze commemorative plaque for an outpost of the First Battalion, Dublin Brigade. A cast bronze plaque with gilt lettering, headed 'Eiri amach na Casca 1916' and marking the location of one of the outposts of the First Battalion, Dublin Brigade. Probably taken from a demolished building in Dublin. 18 by 12in. (45.7 by 30.5cm) The 1st battalion, under Edward 'Ned' Daly, occupied the Four Courts and surrounding buildings, while a company under Seán Heuston occupied the Mendicity Institution, across the River Liffey. The outposts in this area were chosen to protect the Four Courts which was subject to some of the most savage fighting between the Volunteers and the British Army.
