A rare sculpted oak model of a European merchant or army officer, first quarter 18th century, Dutch or possibly French, in contemporary attire including tricorn hat, cravat and long coat with sash and billowing drape, with buckled boots, on a rectangular base, 41cm high, 16cm wideThe present lot shows similarities to depictions of East India traders manufactured in the English and Dutch colonies during the early years of the 18th century. The best-known versions of these are by Chinese plaster sculptor Amoy Chinqua. His circa 1716 model of merchant and colonial administrator Joseph Collet, in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London, is particularly similar in attire. As the sculpture presented here is made of oak, it is more likely an unusual European rendition of a similar subject.Condition Report: The sculpture bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age. There is some evidence of minor old worming, particularly to the base and the left sleeve, though this doesn't appear to be active. There is an old repair across the socle, mostly visible to the underside. There are two shallow surface inconsistencies (narrow, each circa 0.5-1cm long) to the coat, possibly inconsistencies in the timber of very small chips. The left elbow is a little scuffed.Condition Report Disclaimer

Hogan met Colonel Brind, Co. Evans and Mr. Cope on 21 June (1922), providing that 'with a view to preserving order on the Border that, as an experiment, British troops shall occupy the villages of Belleek, Pettigo,Garrison, Kesh and the surrounding area,' etc; that units of the Special Constabulary and elements of the Provisional Government and Republican forces shall remove themselves from the area; that there will be no searches or arrests other than by civil police, etc. Also with a copy memo from Comdt. Hogan indicating that he was discourteously treated by British troops when on official business in the area; a note signed by Gen. Mulcahy forwarding Hogan's report to the Chairman, Provisional Government, 28.6.22; a memo to Chief of Staff (O'Duffy) from T. (F.A.I.) 1955, illus., ptd. wrappers. Good Copy. (1)* The Match was marred in controversy ever before a ball was even kicked. Of Plymouth Argyle FC an original seat from Home Park Grandstand. Proceeds from this lot will go direct to St.Lukes Hospice, Plymouth.Martin York was a big sports fan but during his working life as an architect did not have time to attend football games. In 2017 not long after he moved to Plymouth, he was diagnosed with advanced terminal prostate cancer. He was 55.He went to see Argyle play Liverpool - and was hooked! He became a season ticket holder and this was his seat in the old Home Park Grandstand. Watching Argyle and being part of the Green Army was a great distraction from his gruelling treatment.Martin gave a talk to the Argyle players about the symptoms of prostate cancer - and then stared to volunteer with the fitness coach and the grounds team. He was well recognised by the players and the Home Park staff at all levels. He sadly died at St Luke's on 15 January this year.

Amongst his diving achievements were helping to raise the hull of King Henry VIII's favourite ship, The Mary Rose in 1982, which sank in the Solent in 1545. Regimental Sergeant Major Burton also served in Belize, Hong Kong, Norway, Northern Ireland, Oman, Cyprus, Germany and Kenya where his extraordinary diving skills were deployed throughout. Omega introduced the Seamaster 300 in 1957 as part of a line of "Professional" watches. A very small quantity were made for military use from 1967 until approximately 1970. These were custom designed by Omega to meet the needs of members of the British Army and Royal Navy. A number of distinct features set these military-issued watches apart from Omega's regular production units. Their cases have distinctive curved and beveled lugs and were delivered with fixed spring bars. The dials feature an encircled "T" signifying the use of tritium for the luminous hour markers and hands. Their case backs were engraved by the Ministry of Defense with the military branch code, issue number, and year of issue. The "W10" designation indicates that this Seamaster 300 was one of a small number issued to the British Army.
