Active service on Burma/Assam Norder Commanding his own unit. Invalided to Schillong and then home via S. Africa. Invalided from Army with disability pension & rank of Hon Lieut. Army LS&GC Victoria renamed in a contemporary style to 777 Pte T Stevens 24th Foot, shows wear to naming, looks like it was worn, Thomas Stevens was born in Exeter, a bricklayer, attested Breccon 9/3/76 aged 22, served in "B" Company at the Defence of Rorkes Drift, entitled to Zulu medal, but was not awarded LS&GC due to misconduct ! Pilot Officer Henryk Szczesny was from Poland. He was born in Warsaw and went to college there. He became an army cadet before joining the Polish Air Force at Deblin. He fought the Germans in Poland and was wounded. He escaped to Malta by ship the arrived at Eastchurch via France, joining No 74 Squadron in August 1940 after converting to Spitfire's. He was also known as 'Henry the Pole'. He attained the rank of Squadron Leader. Battle of Britain pilot. Good condition
Two Victorian silver cigarette cases The first of rounded rectangular form, with embossed regimental monogram to exterior sides, Army and Navy Cooperative Society Ltd, Frederick Bradford Macrea, London, 1887, 2oz, 8cm long, the second of typical arched square form, engraved with crest and motto 'semper recte', Henry Matthews, Birmingham, 1902, 2.8oz, 8cm long (2).
