Player Caiaphas in the 1969 Dennis Potter play Son of Man, Toby Esterhase in the BBC Television adaptations of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People, and George Smiley in the radio adaptations. He also played the Commandant in Colditz (1972-74), and later appeared for the same production team as Albert Foiret in three seasons of Secret Army (1977-79) as well as appearing as Pallas in I Claudius. Good condition.

A CANDAHAR, GHUZNEE, CABUL MEDAL TO PRIVATE T. WEST, 31ST REGIMENT the reverse Cabul 1842, with steel clip and ring suspender (No.1212 Thomas Wes. Pt. Hms 31st Regimt), engraved, unmounted. Note: A copy of West's discharge documentation accompanies the lot and indicates that he was born in Taunton (Somerset) and worked as a shoemaker before attesting for the 16th Regiment of Foot in 1839, and being transferred to the 31st Regiment in 1840. He was the subject of a Battalion Court Martial in 1846 for being absent without leave, and was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment, but was later promoted, ultimately becoming a Sergeant in 1858, prior to being discharged from the army in 1860.
A POST-1902 WELSH REGIMENT OFFICER'S HOME SERVICE BLUE CLOTH HELMET with a gilt metal King's crown helmet plate to the front, a removable spike to the top on a shaped cruciform base with rosette fittings, rosette side bosses, brass trim to the front peak, and leather and velvet backed chin scales, complete with leather sweat band, the interior gilt blocked 'F.W. Flight / Military Outfitter / 90, High St. / Winchester', in original painted tin hat box, with an applied plaque to the sloping front 'F.W. Flight / Military Tailor / Winchester' and hand painted below 'W.T. Wootton / Welch Regt.'. Note: Second-Lieutenant William Thomas Wootton was commissioned into the Special Reserve of The Welsh Regiment on 7th January 1914. He was attached to the 2nd Battalion and embarked for France on 12th August 1914. On 21st September 1914 he was with the Battalion in the vicinity of Beaulne, during the retreat from Mons, when he suffered an eye injury and was returned to Base. He rejoined the Battalion on 26th December 1914, at which time it was in the line at Festubert. The October 1918 Army List shows him as a Captain but he is not shown in the 1920 List, suggesting he was demobilised in 1919 and resigned from his Special Reserve Commission.

Indian Army. 31st Trichinopoly Light Infantry Victorian shoulder belt plate.A good rare Indian made example. Cast brass rectangular plate with cantered corners mounted with large silver strung bugle with "XXXI" between the strings. Below, a brass scroll with silvered "T.L.I.". Reverse retains a hook and two studs. Top of bugle cords with fixed ring in order to secure whistle chains (not present). Service wear. GCEx.Bosleys. Provenance : In the effects of Captain Charles Colin Campbell, born 1842, who served in the regiment from 1867 until promoted Major 13th April, 1885 upon his transfer to 23rd Wallajahbad Light Infantry.
