Philip Wills circa 1942-1946, firstly during his time at the Indian Military Academy as an Officer Cadet in Dehra Dun, and then his subsequent commissioning into the 10th Batallion, 11th Sikh Regiment, the album comprises 55 letters in total sent back to Britain between July 1944 & June 1946, as well as poetry, annotations & sketches, his Indian Army identity card with photograph, loose postcard sized photograph of him and some other associated ephemera loosely inserted, contemporary half leather gilt worn, top board detached, lacks backstrip, together with accompanying album containing a few snapshot photographs (13 in total) of/taken by Wills when in India, various images of military academy at Dehra Dun including Wills posing with squash racquet, playing fields, "D" Coy anti-room, plus images of Missorri, including Savoy Hotel, river Jumna, Himalayas from Missorri etc etc, with 5 pages at front manuscript entries, contemporary leather gilt (2)

LUIS JAVIER GAYÁ SOLER (Madrid, 1962)."Urban landscape", 1988.Oil on panel.There is a tear in the upper left corner.Signed and dated in the lower right corner.Provenance: private collection conceived since the 70s between London and Madrid.Size: 35 x 47 cm; 56 x 70 cm (frame).Luis Gayá began his training with Begoña Izquierdo, to finally study restoration and painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid. In 1996 he was awarded the Reina Sofía Prize at the Salón de Otoño, and joined the Escuela de El Escorial. He then furthered his studies in Rome, where he has lived for periods since then, thanks to various scholarships. Since the eighties, Gayá has held numerous solo exhibitions and taken part in group exhibitions, both in Spain and in Italy, Germany, Lithuania, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, etc. He has also won a large number of important awards, such as the Painting Prize of Her Excellency the Duchess of Alba at the Autumn Salon of the Academy of Saint Isabel of Hungary in Seville (2009). He is currently represented in important private collections, such as those of the Duchess of Alba, Mapfre and Telefónica, as well as in the Museo de la Ciudad de Madrid, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo O Barco, the Spanish Academy in Rome, the General Staff of the Army, the National Library, the Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo and others.
