Sexton Blake/The Crimes at Fenton Towers original cover artwork by Eric Parker for Sexton Blake Library No 243 (1951). Parker clandestinely initialled his work via the car's number plate 'ERP 51' adding the year. From the Eric Parker archive of original artwork. Bright poster colour on board. 14 x 19 ins **Eric Parker was a prolific British illustrator best known for painting the covers of Sexton Blake Library which he did for over thirty years. He had a detailed knowledge of military history and served in WWI in Military Intelligence producing propaganda illustrations directed at the Home Front. As a freelance illustrator in 1949 Parker worked on Amalgamated Press titles Sun and Comet drawing the Happy Hussar stories of the Napoleonic Wars, Horatio Nelson and Claude Duval adventures. He illustrated covers and stories of Cowboy Comics Library and Thriller Picture Library and also drew covers for The Soldier, the official magazine of the British Army amongst many other commissions. A WWI medal group consisting of Mons Star 1914 trio named to 6034 L. SGT A.V. COLMAN 11/HRS (ALFRED VICTOR COLMAN) and Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal named to 534950 SQ.Q.M. SJT. A.V. COLMAN 11/HRS. (Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant). He enlisted on 01/11/1906 joining the Hussars of the Line and later the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own). He is listed under numbers 6034, 46694 and 534950. The lot also includes ephemera consisting of Regular Army Certificate of Service, his military history sheets (showing that he served in France from 15th August 1914 then on to Egypt and India after the war) and postcard photograph. Lot 7365 is a collection belonging to a relative of this lot
WWI LOCAL INTEREST: A collection of WWI Norfolk Regiment uniform and effects consisting of service dress tunic with four pocket front and brass buttons, peaked cap bearing Norfolk Regiment badge, brown leather buskins and Derby Scheme armband. Documentation includes: request refusal for transfer into the R.N.A.S., transfer to Army Reserve, certificate of service in Volunteer Force. A scumbled tin trunk and James Dixon & Sons brown leather cased spirit flask with saddle mount from the same family. All relating to V123616 PTE. WALTER BAXTER of the 4th Volunteer Battalion Norfolk Regiment. Walter lived in Pulham Market (Near Diss, Norfolk). Some minor moth damage to hat, hole to upper-left breast and some discolouration to the tunic.
A WWII medal group to a husband and wife who met during the war, EDNA "EDDIE" WINIFRED BROOKS (later Shearer) and THOMAS SCOTT SHEARER. The lot consists of WWII ATS medal group of five consisting of 1939-45, Africa stars, Defence and War Medals, together with Territorial Force Efficiency Medal named to W/8545 SJT. E.W. BROOKS A.T.S., together with her insignia, cap badge, shoulder titles and documents including Soldier's Service and Pay Book and Release Book. 1939-45 and Africa stars together with Defence and War Medals to Thomas Shearer. They met whilst out in the Far East during the Second World War serving with their respective regiments of the ATS & 8th Army, returning home at the end of the war having served for a full term, marrying at their local registry office. Unable to have children of their own they went on to adopt two children & were devoted to each-other until her untimely passing whilst on holiday in Norfolk. They had only recently celebrated their 25th Anniversary.

A Circa 1920's Indian/Nepalese Cream Wool Wedding Jacket, the back, cuffs and lower of jacket decorated with large crewelwork embroideries of vibrant flower arrangements, the jacket trimmed with eau de nil embroidery and small pink flowers to the fall By repute, the vendor's mother was housekeeper for a former captain within the British Army, who wore the jacket when marrying his Indian wife at the foot of the Himalayas, circa 1920.
