Tadeusz Was (1912-2005), Abstract figurative studies, signed, double sided, oil on board, 35.5 x 29.5cm.; 14 x 11.5in. * Tadeusz trained at the Polish Institute of Fine Art, Krakow for five years before being conscripted into the Polish Army. Tadeusz taught art in Crewe for many years and set up a coalition of Artists known as Group Five who exhibited throughout the Northwest. A solo exhibition - `Lost in Crewe` was held at the Museum and Art Gallery, Warrington in 1991 and an exhibition at the Portico Gallery, Manchester was very well received in June 30th, 2005. Colonel George Rainier Crawford, CB (1862-1915) the son of Major Francis Haden Crawford of the 98th Regt, married Miss Katherine Maude Bladen, Superintendent of the Victorian Home for Nurses, Cheltenham in 1907. In 1914 he applied for reinstatement but, being deemed too old for active service was appointed Hon Colonel of the 10th Bn West Riding Regiment. He died on 22 August 1914 and is buried in Leckhampton churchyard.

A VICTORIAN SILVER-GILT DISH, MAKER'S MARK RUBBED, LONDON, 1886 with presentation inscription and pierced border of scrolling leafage around flowerheads 23cm diameter, 385gr (12oz) The inscription reads: 'Wilfred Haeffner from his Godmother A.A.G.' Wilfred Haeffner, otherwise known as Frederick Wilfred Haeffner, was born in 1890, the son of Frederick Augustus Charles John Haeffner (1856-1930), a general merchant, formerly of Bavaria, and his wife, Evelyn Elizabeth (née Cappel, 1865-1943), then living at 10 Frognal, Hampstead, London. He joined the Army and eventually rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant Royal Field Artillery and was killed at the Battle of the Somme on 9 July 1916. Lieutenant-General Sir Aylmer Gould Hunter-Weston KCB DSO GStJ was a British Army general who served in World War I at Gallipoli and in the very early stages of the Somme Offensive. He was also a Member of Parliament.
