A complete 17th century Indian armour of mail and plate, Deccani, Bijapur. All elements retaining their original padded fabric linings. The front of one of the breast plates bears an Arabic inscription which may be translated as "The Possessor is Dervish", inside of the same plate is inscribed in Devanagari script. This inscription states that the armour was taken by Anup Singh Maharaja of Bikaneer, a General in the Mughal Emperor Aurangzebs army who defeated the last defender of the Adil Shai Dynasty of Bijapur, at the Seige of Adoni in 1689. A whole series of these armours were taken to Bikineer as war booty. Some of these armours were worn at the Delhi Durbar in 1903 by the Bikineer Camel Corps in "The Review of the Native Chiefs Retinues". The armour is sold together with associated Indian matchlock and snail shaped powder horn complete with the dummy. Good Condition for age.
