Remington 1858 New Model Army .44 percussion revolver, serial number 30138, 7.5 inch octagonal barrel, with a good amount of original bluing remaining, stamped with inspectors letter stamps to the frame and cartouche to grips. Section 58(2) antique/ obsolete calibre no licence required to buy this lot, purchaser must be over the age of 18. Photo ID will be required if the lot is to be posted out.33cm long The gun is in is in better than average condition with a nice patina and alot of original blue remaining, there are small signs of age and use. The metalwork to the exterior has some light surface speckling especially where the bluing has worn. The bore is in good order with a crisp rifling pattern but there is a ring of pitting towards the muzzle. The action works correctly with good timing, lock-up and a strong spring. The grips are free from splits or cracks, there are some small stains ,dents and scratches.

Chapter 1 entitled "The Battle of Abu Kru", Chapter 2 [unfinished] "On board Gordon's Steamers", subjects include military actions, conditions, the dispute of whether to execute p.o.w.'s, the rivalries between army and navy personnel on the steamers "kept together by a common cause, our fidelity to Gordon, self-preservation and a knowledge that one should get scant mercy at the hands of Mahdi", the loss of red coat apparel, the bullet-proofing of the steamers; all in a considerable level of detail.

In the 50's he was considered one of the 'Kitchen Sink School' of painters favouring harsh subjects of working class life. His oil on canvas 'Tenement Dwellers' was acquired in 1956 by the Arts Council and in 1984 his work was included in the Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield Touring Show 'The Forgotten 50's'. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Bankside Gallery, and local exhibitions in Wales and London.  After part time teaching at various art schools throughout London he obtained a full time post at Kingston Upon Thames where he became a senior lecturer in the 70's until his retirement in 1986. He always carried a sketch book and drew views of London, the Thames, scenes in Wales and musicians at rehearsals in the Royal College of Music.

A WWII period Finish Hunting/Fighting Knife, the straight single edge blade over a brass hilt and antler one piece grip, in a brown leather scabbard, blade length 17.7cm.*Notes- This knife was given to the vendor by a Mr Simo Lehiti who served in the Finish Army during the 'Winter War' 1939-1940. It is believed that Mr Lehiti constructed the knife with antler from a moose that he had shot. He carried the knife with him throughout WWII.

A German pass book/ program book with tickets for events for MV Wilhelm Gustloff cruise ship for Faulein Peggy St. Lo, No. 40, for the Fourth Annual Rally of the National-Socialist Fellowship, 9-12th June 1938, with a base metal and enamel flag bracelet, two pressed card boarding badges, WWII Home Guard pin, 1937 German Education Conference pin, an Austrian red enamel Eagle pin, Sweden Army tie pin, Royal Sweden tie pin, Sweden Athletic pin, two 1938 Helsinki, Finland Sports Championship and others, (15) Wilhelm Gustloff was constructed by the Blohm & Voss shipyards, she was launched on 5 May 1937. The ship was originally intended to be named Adolf Hitler but instead was christened after Wilhelm Gustloff. It was used a a propaganda venue for National- Socialist party. The ship made her unofficial maiden voyage between 24 and 27 March 1938 carrying Austrians in an attempt to convince them to vote for the annexation of Austria by Germany. On 8 April 1938 Wilhelm Gustloff, departed Hamburg for England, where she anchored over 5.6 kilometres offshore from Tilbury so as to remain in international waters. This allowed her to act as a floating polling station for German and Austrian citizens living in England who wished to vote on the approaching plebiscite on Germany's unification with Austria. During 10 April, 1,172 Germans and 806 Austrian eligible voters were ferried between the docks at Tilbury.From 14 March 1938 until 26 August 1939, the ship took over 80,000 passengers on a total of 60 voyages, all around Europe promoting the National Socialist parties views.

RENE HALKETT (GERMAN 1900-1983) THE CONDUCTOR - 1971 Signed and dated '71 verso, oil on board 71cm x 60cm (28in x 23.5in) The artist and writer René Halkett (1900-83) was born in Germany. From an aristocratic family, he was a soldier in the First World War. He later joined the Stagecraft Workshop of the Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar in 1923 and studied under Klee and Kandinsky. He travelled in Java in the 1920s and spent time in Ibiza in the early 1930s. Escaping the rise of Fascism in the 1930s, Halkett chose exile in Britain, emigrating in 1936.In his book Dear Monster, published in 1939, Halkett wrote about German society, the growth of National Socialism in Germany, and the threat of the outbreak of war. He was actively anti-Nazi and during the Second World War he was involved in the Special Operations Executive of the British military. After the war, he became a British citizen in 1946, and worked as a translator for the US Army during the Nuremberg Trials.Halkett had exhibited paintings inspired by Surrealism at Jack Bilbo's The Modern Art Gallery in London in the 1940s. When Halkett later settled in Cornwall, he broadcast for the German Service of the BBC. He continued to produce paintings, drawings and sculpture, and became a mentor to young actors and musicians around Cornwall's Footsbarn Theatre in the 1970s.A retrospective exhibition, René Halkett: From Bauhaus to Cornwall, was held at Falmouth Art Gallery in 2019.
