WWI Early Casualty Royal Sussex Regiment Memorial Plaque Death Penny, complete with card envelope, to Frederick Curtis Holland.6320 Private Frederick Curtis Holland was born in Worthing and prior to joining the British Army he was employed as a mineral water manufacturer. He became a career soldier and following the outbreak of war he landed in France with 2 Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment on 12 September 1914. After a short period of heavy fighting he was killed in action on 30 October 1914. His body was not recovered, and he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial.

The regiment was part of an expeditionary force that captured the City of Rangoon. Later the British Army captured the entire province of Pegu which was subsequently annexed in the closing stages of the war in 1853
