A Journal of a Voyage to Madrass [sic], in the Year of Our Lord Christ 1761, by Richard Rose, Lieutenant in the 96th Regiment of Foot, 80pp., neatly written manuscript in a series of 26 letters, pen and ink and watercolour vignettes and illustrations including one full-page map, pen and ink decorated initials, tailpieces and designs throughout, first page designed as a book title-page with coat of arms, ownership signature of J.H. Chapman, Craggs Hall, Guisbro'[?] to upper right corner, some dust-soiling and marginal fraying, a little loss to inner margin of final leaf, later rear wrapper near-detached, slim folio A beautifully illustrated manuscript describing reinforcements for India during the Seven Years' War and containing an important and detailed early account of Delagoa Bay and its hinterland, inhabitants, customs, etc. A photocopy of the journal is held at the National Army Museum (accession no. 1999-03-136). Dr D W S Sheldon of Repton, Derbyshire from whom acquired by the present vendor, in 1970.Literature: Craven (W), Catalogue of the Pictures at Combe Abbey Warwickshire, privately published 1866, No 307.Frédéric-Maurice de La Tour d'Auvergne, Duc de Bouillon, Prince de Sedan (1605-1652), son of Duc Henri (1555-1623) and Elisabeth of Orange-Nassau (1577-1642). A General in the French army, he was the elder brother of the renowned Turenne (1611-1675) with whom he was a leader of the Fronde des Nobles from 1650. He married Eleonora Catharina Febronis, by whom he had five sons and four daughters.
Indian Army. 12th Kelat-I-Ghilzie Regiment (Bengal Infantry) Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1885-1903. A fine silver and gilt example by Firmin & Sons Ld. Silver circlet inscribed ‘Kelat-I-Ghilzie Regiment’, the seeded gilt centre bears silver mural crown atop ‘12’. Universal pattern rococo ends. VGC Redesignated 1st Bn.12th Pioneers (The Kelat-I-Ghilzie Regiment) in 1903
Indian Army. 1st European Bengal Fusiliers Victorian pre 1881 Officer’s waist belt clasp, A good rare example. Gilt disc mounted with laurel wreath entwined with battle honours and bearing flaming grenade with mounted in silver ‘European Bengal I Fusilers’. Compete with plain ends. Silver overlay rubbed. GC In 1861 the former HEIC regiment 1st European Bengal Fusiliers was transferred to the British Establishment as the 101st (Royal Bengal Fusiliers) becoming the 1st Bn. The Royal Munster Fusiliers on Friday 1st July, 1881.
Indian Army. 19th Madras Victorian Officers waist belt clasp circa 1885-1903. A good rare example in silver and gilt with matching numbers to both halves. Silver circlet ‘Madras Infantry’, seeded gilt centre mounted with silver seeded ‘19’. Floral rococo ends. GC Redesignated 79th Carnatic Infantry in 1903
Royal Irish Regiment Victorian Officer’s helmet plate circa 1881-1901. A good gilt example. Crowned star mounted with laurel sprays and Garter, the crimson velvet centre with silver crowned Harp within shamrock sprays. Mounted on the base of the laurel, a silver scroll ‘The Royal Irish’. Three loops to reverse. Some wear to gilt, centre securing lug absent otherwise GC. (KK 233) Provenance. Ex Hugh King Collection, Bosleys December 2009, Lot 18. This is the actual piece photographed as No. 233 in “Head-dress Badges of the British Army”.
Indian Army. 1st Brahmans pagri badge circa 1903-22. A good British made die-stamped brass example with JR Gaunt, London tablet to reverse. ‘Fishes of Oudh, resting on a tablet inscribed “1776”. Pagri pin to reverse now absent, barrel and hook remain, otherwise VGC. (Cox 2381) The 1st Brahmans became the 4th Battalion of the Punjab Regiment in 1922.
Boer War Princess Christian’s Army Nursing Service Reserve badge. A scarce unmarked silver 1897-1907 example. The front depicting a cross within a circlet inscribed ‘Princess Christian’s Army Nursing Service Reserve’ and thistle, oakleaf, shamrock and rose devices between each arm. Original stout pin fixing to reverse which is impressed with issue number 94. Some service wear, GC Issued to Edith Porter of the London Temperance Hospital. She resigned from the Reserve shortly after the start of the Boer War and thus did not qualify for the Queen’s South Africa Medal.
Indian Army. East Indian Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps helmet badge. A good scarce British made die-stamped brass example. Crowned EIRVR cypher superimposed on crossed rifles; strung bugle beneath the cypher with tri-part scroll ‘Defence not Defiance’ below. Original single central screw post to reverse. VGC (Cox 2676)

Maltese cross, balls to the tips and lions in the angles, mounted with circlet ‘Scinde Rifles Frontier Force’ , with foliated ‘59’ to translucent blue enamel centre. Stout pagri pin to reverse. VGC
