The Russian mechanical wristwatch was manufactured by J M Kupona CCCP movement numbered 477984. It has a large robust chrome metal case with protective glass, luminous hands and numerals which all characterise this watch. The black enamel dial has a picture of Stalin and Zhukov saluting a military parade in Red Square. The manufacturer's name and address also appear on the dial. The inside of the backplate of the watch is inscribed 'Marshal Gyorgy Zhukov although his name is generally reported as Georgy. Why do these two great Russian Generals appear on the same watch? The watch was purchased more than twenty years ago by Wythenshawe Resident Author Broadcaster and Historian David Turner. It is alleged that this watch was presented to Marshal Zhukov by Joseph Stalin in recognition of Marshal Zhukov's success fully defending Stalingrad against the German onslaught and capturing Berlin in World War II ahead of the Allied Forces so we have two Russian Army Generals depicted on this watch who were also seconded to several senior posts within the government. David told Your Local Voice that despite interest from Imperial War Museum he is keen to offer the watch back to Russia adding that 'BBC Television in Manchester have said they will cooperate with Russian television to produce a programme covering the presentation of the watch to a suitable Russian military museum as part of their military history for posterity'."

Registration No: GLY 613 Frame No: 7415254 MOT: ExemptFamily owned since the 1970sRestored by Alan Forbes in 1996Very little use since completionOffered with the V5CThe Indian 741 was designed in 1939 to be used mainly for the US army and the armies of its allies. The 741 had a flathead V-twin based on the civilian Thirty-fifty model the 741 was used mainly by couriers and scouts due to its lack of performance, but was very durable. A hand-change three-speed transmission with a foot-operated clutch is a typical practice for the day. The configuration is very similar to its bigger brother the 750 cc Military Scout (model 640 B), but the 500 is built lighter as regards to both frame and engine. There are also many differences in detail. The 741 production ran for about 6 years till 1944 with about 35,000 machines being made. This 741 B Indian started its life with the Allied Forces at the RAF Airfield at Madley in Herefordshire during WWII. The owner's late father acquired the bike in 1960 and was then registered for the road in 1973. In 1995 it was transported from Herefordshire to Edinburgh and was meticulously restored by the highly respected ‘Indian man’ Alan Forbes of Motolux. This Indian V-twin is a mostly original machine, with the restoration work providing a complete mechanical overhaul, a new chrome silencer, and a new classic saddle seat. The original owner has ridden the bike intermittently since 1996 and there are nearly 400 miles on the clock. There is an MOT certificate from when it was restored, the last tax disc shows 1997. The bike starts easily, runs very well, and has just been checked over. It comes with the original logbook, some correspondence, and Indian Club magazines. Included is a rare copy of the ‘Indian Rider's Handbook’ detailing the mechanics of the Indian Twin and Four models. Registration No: SV 9224 Frame No: L2210/20 MOT: ExemptUnrestored and mostly original with a V5C on fileMade in WolverhamptonEngine runs with a refurbished magnetoThe Clyno Engineering Company was founded in 1909 by the cousins Frank and Ailwyn Smith. The company took its name for the pulley designed for belt-driven machines which was known as the "inclined pully", becoming abbreviated to the "clined" and then Clyno. After the war, the motorcycle industry collapsed. A large number of cheap motorcycles no longer needed by the army were sold, undercutting the prices of Clyno's machines. There was also a shortage of materials with which to produce new models and to compound Clyno's problems the Russians failed to pay for the motorcycles they received during the war which led to the withdrawal of financial backing. In 1920 the Clyno Engineering Company went into liquidation. This 1921 Clyno was purchased by the current owner due to it being mostly original. Since his ownership, he has had the magneto refurbished at great cost (receipt on file). The Clyno has not been used in recent years and will need the usual checks before it is placed back on the road. It is being offered with the current V5C and some Bruce Main-Smith catalogues. An original wartime postcard dated 24th December 1942 from Camo P.G. 21 at Chieti, Italy to Squadron Leader Dennin Wheatley, who was currently on Winston Churchills 'Planning' Staff attached to MI5 during WW2. This postcard was sent by his step-son, Lieutenant John "Jack" Younger (latterly Major General Sir John "Jack" Younger, 3rd Baronet, CBE) and refers in the card "congratulations even Gregory never did better". This refers to Gregory Sallust, one of Wheatleys best known fiction spys who pitted his wits against the Nazi's and always triumphed. Younger was captured by the Germans during the battle for Tobruk on 20th June 1942, after fierce fighting. He and his men held out under heavy shellfire but were eventually overwhelmed, and Younger was taken prisoner. He was sent to Camp 21 in Italy, where he maintained his composure, famously greeting a friend with nonchalance despite being a POW. Following the Italian armistice in September 1943, Younger escaped from the camp, narrowly avoiding recapture by hiding in a water tank. He joined the Italian partisans and helped organize escape routes for Allied POWs, assisting 18 men in crossing into neutral Switzerland, including one who traveled disguised as a fireman on a train. Younger also gathered vital intelligence, which he passed through partisan channels, and commanded sabotage operations for several months. In October 1944, he was ordered to return to the 8th Army with a group of escaped prisoners and was later awarded an MBE for his courageous actions during the war.
