Two Chinese white metal related items, a trophy awarded for the Shanghai Scottish Challenge cup, won by C.W Glover in 1923, the base supported by three stylised rifles, stamped Tuk Chang and a shield, the white metal plaque titled Inter Port Challenge trophy, Inter Port rifle match winners Shanghai 1934Provenance: Lieutenant Colonel Claude William Glover helped design the Mulberry Harbour used in the Second World War invasion of France, died in 1978 aged 89, he was stationed in army service in Hong Kong from 1923-1939 and latterly moved back to the Southampton area of his birth.
An English white felspathic and tinted commemorative jug for the Battle of Vittoria (21st June 1813), circa 1813, sprigged in white relief on a drab tinted ground with the Marquess of Wellington and assorted soldiers, one waving his shako from a captured cannon and holding a captured eagle, another hauling the cannon by a chest impressed PLUNDER and two others before the general waving a scarf bearing the legend Vittoria , within painted blue band borders and applied with a lion mask handle, 12.5cm high Note: The Marquess of Wellington with an army of British, Spanish and Portuguese troops of about 82,000 defeats the French army of Joseph Bonaparte under Marshall Jourdan of about 60, 000 on the Zadorro river in northern Spain in June 1813 after which the French withdrew from Spain and thus closing the Peninsular War. The battle is also notable as the French left 'the loot of a Kingdom' behind, thought to have been worth in the region of £1 million then. This and the large distance marched by Wellington that day allowed the French to withdraw relatively un-molested as the British fell on the baggage train, the ill discipline of which sent Wellington into a range, referencing in a letter to Earl Bathurst, Secretary of State for War, his famous 'scum of the earth' quote. Less than a year later Wellington would be engaged in battle on French soil at Toulouse and the Emperor
