A SUBSTANTIAL 6-BORE PERCUSSION FOWLING PIECE SIGNED FISHER, LONDON, no visible serial number, circa 1800, originally a flintlock and with subsequent conversions to pill and finally cap-lock, with fine strongly tapering round 41in. browned barrel with silver bead fore-sight and short sighting flat at breech signed in gilt 'FISHER, LONDON', the signature extending along and engraved needle terminating in a starburst, further gilt bands at breech together with an engraved band, fully engraved top-tang, bevel-edged lock with stepped and engraved pointed tail and signed below the original pan cut-out 'FISHER', bulbous drum and nipple, engraved slab-sided hammer with detachable 'pill-lock' nose, heavy walnut half-stock with chequered semi pistol-grip, gadrooned pommel, raised cheek-piece, iron furniture except clipped corner rectangular white metal escutcheon at wrist and for the barrel key and white metal fore-end cap, substantial brass-mounted ebony ramrod, weight approximately 16 1/2lb.Provenance: This gun was formerly the property of John Nigel George 1903-1942. It features on pages 262-3 and plate XVIII figure 1 of his book 'English Guns & Rifles'. Though listed as a 4-bore "Of this plug conversion a good example may be seen in Figure (1) of Plate XVIII in which is shown the lock of a fine 4-bore duck gun, made by Fisher, of No. 203 High Holborn, and of the period shortly after 1800, which has apparently been converted to percussion some twenty years later. Both the form and engraving of its new hammer are strongly reminiscent of those of the hammers found upon the Forsyth and Richards locks of the 1820 period and the fact of its being fitted with a detachable "striker", which can be replaced as it becomes worn, also marks it as belonging to the first few years of the percussion cap era".The aforementioned book was intended to be a companion volume to his earlier work, 'English Pistols and Revolvers." He wrote the first 11 chapters and made the headings and notes for the 12th chapter. He drew all the line drawings and illustrations and planned photographic illustrations. In March 1939, George joined the 5th Royal West Kent Regiment of the British Volunteer Territorial Army and was, therefore, ready when the Territorial Army was merged in the British Army upon war being declared upon Germany by Great Britain September 3rd, 1939.It was agreed to delay the publication of the book until hostilities were ended, and that should George no survive the war, one of his many friends Mr S.B. Haw, should write chaper 12 and draw up a bibliography and an index.George lived through Dunkirk and recovered from a severe head wound he had received during the Belgian Flanders campaign. He served for a period in England, and following strenuous training, went to Egypt with the 8th Army. On the long journey from the Cape he wrote of new friends and interests. Following an action in North Africa on September 3rdm 1942, he was killed by an enemy sniper.

Römischer Bronzehelm vom Typ Montefortino, 2. Jhdt. v. Chr. A Roman bronze helmet of the Montefortino type, 2nd century B.C. A Roman bronze helmet of the Montefortino type, 2nd century B.C.Republican helmet of Etruscan-Italian style with knob-shaped finial and roped edge, as used by Roman legions from around 200 BC until the mid-1st century BC. Knob and bowl made of one piece as usual for Italic helmets. Nearly hemispherical bowl with conical finial at top. The distinct "roped edge" with outward turn and extending at rear to form a short, slightly sloped neck-guard with a maximum width of 3 cm. The roped edge surmounted by a stamped band of double dots. Slightly above, near the edge, two parallel horizontal lines extending around the perimeter. In the centre of the neck-guard an elongated crescent-shaped field framed by two lines, divided by lines on the inside and stamped within the fields. In the centre of the neck-guard the typical central perforation (rivet hole?). Three rivets in the middle of either side between the roped edge and dotted band, the two rear rivets serving to fasten a sheet metal tab, below with an outward facing sleeve. The tab probably wasn't a hinge, but held a leather strap (cheekpieces are not known from any context, not even from grave finds). The function of the third (front) rivet hole, on one side still with the preserved rivet, is unknown (additional fastening of a helmet lining?). An Old Hispanic letter carved on the inside of the neck-guard to the right of the central perforation (B or P from the Eastern Iberian alphabet of the 2nd - 1st century or the eastern variant of the Celtiberian alphabet, respectively). Having said that, it is possible that the present helmet fell into the hands of an Iberian warrior or belonged to an Iberian warrior serving in the Roman army. The present helmet is likely associated with the Roman Conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in the 2nd century BC. Surface in several places with distinctive signs of corrosion. The exterior much better preserved around the edge than at the centre of the bowl. The latter partially shattered and professionally re-assembled. Length 25.3 cm, width 22 cm, height approx. 21 cm.Provenance: From the Swiss G.B. Collection, stored in southwestern Germany, acquired in 2021 in exchange from a Lithuanian private collection (A.V.) where it had stayed for over ten years. Acquired from the previous owner in Lithuanian art trade.Condition: III +

1955 Land Rover Series I (86") Transmission: manualMileage:Originally registered in 1955 to the Halesowen Engineering Company who converted vehicles for military contracts, it then began life as a Column Commander's vehicle for the British Army whose job it was to lay communications cables across strategic territories. It eventually left the MoD before being restored in 2018. It was stripped and rebuilt whilst still careful to preserve some of its original patina. The exterior has been rebuilt from the ground up including sandblasting and then rebuilding when necessary. The chassis and bulkhead has been repainted and is now completely free of corrosion. The original body panels have been retained where possible to ensured it presents without an over-restored appearance. The paint is good all round and the bumpers and trim are in excellent order with refurbished wheels and new tyres. Under the bonnet is the earlier two-litre engine, fully rebuilt with overhauled suspension, brakes and steering. Offering a wonderful character and an absorbing driving experience together with a file of history and paperwork including a British Motor Heritage certificate confirming the production and delivery date. Also included are invoices from a well-known Series I specialist documenting many of the specific parts that were required for its restoration and a selection of photographs of the Land Rover 'as found' and during its restoration. JACQUES FRANCOIS JOSEPH SCHWEBACH-DESFONTAIN. France, 1769-1823 Rest of the Russian cavalry. Famous French artist, invited by Emperor Alexander I to the post of artistic director of the imperial porcelain factories, from 1815 to 1820. The work is a rest scene of dismounted Russian lancers and cuirassiers, who are invited into the house by a stately Russian peasant woman in red. The idyllic image of the girl does not deceive the cuirassier, and he looks incredulously at the peasant dwelling. While the Lancers are rather seduced by the invitation. Zealous horses, surrounded by good-natured dogs, are presented against the backdrop of a boundless clear sky and the pastoral landscape of the foothills. The rationality of the classic message reveals the moral imperative of the army - to protect the population, the people. Signed and indistinct date Swebach 181 (6). Oil on canvas, 54 x 72 cm. Width: 72cm, Height: 54cm, Depth: 10cm, Weight: 7kg, Condition: Good, Material: Canvas, oilChoose Color
Ceremonial Kylych of the 1860s. Hallmarks: the master of the letter WL, the head of a girl with a moon in a pentagonal rhombus with the letter P, corresponding to the city of Budapest and the number 4, certifying the fourth Austrian standard (equal to the 72nd Russian). Supposedly belonged to a general staff officer, Kaiserliche und konigliche Armee - Imperial Royal Army, during the reign of Franz Joseph, Austro-Hungarian Empire 1867-1922. Material: Steel blade. The scabbard is made of chased silver with remnants of gilding, decorated with cabochon-cut semi-precious stones: ruby, garnet, jade, turquoise. The lower part of the scabbard in a later version. The rarest work of art made by master gunsmiths of the 19th century undoubtedly has historical and artistic value. Historical note: For the first time, the Central Asian Turks and their offshoots began to use curved cavalry swords, in the period from the end of the 3rd century BC. The earliest examples of curved Turkish swords can be found during the period of the Eastern Turkic Khaganate. After the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans, in most European armies, sabers of the Kilich type were adopted. Width: 23cm, Height: 98cm, Depth: 10cm, Weight: 5kg, Condition: Good, Material: Garnet
